Clearly you are correct!
I stand corrected.

🙂

Depends, do you live somewhere where most kids have very traditional names or not? I don’t live in the UK and it would not raise many eyebrows where I live, although it would be considered a bit unusual. More a girls name though. Plus I’m not sure it translates well to Sky Smith the adult who is in some regular job, maybe some gender confusion too.

DolphinaPD · 19/05/2022 09:27

Kai/kye is nicer for a boy.

TabithaTittlemouse · 19/05/2022 09:28

It’s unisex so why not.

AvengingGerbil · 19/05/2022 09:35

Marlon Brando was Sky Masterman in Guys and Dolls.

ElCoh · 19/05/2022 09:39

Rainbow Cloud Starlight Moon is better imo

Enko · 19/05/2022 09:40

I like Sky for a boy and have known both male and female Sky/e's.
I cant stand Kai or Guy to me they are completely different names to Sky in style. Yes I acknowledge pronunciation is similar but to me they don't go near Sky in style.

Tdcp · 19/05/2022 09:41

When I was about 12 I met a big burley biker called Sky. It suited him somehow!

MintyMoocow · 19/05/2022 09:41

I like it, why not?

Oldandcobwebby · 19/05/2022 10:15

I would never have thought of it being a girl's name, to be honest.

mumneedshelp4 · 19/05/2022 10:16

no fool

quietnightmare · 19/05/2022 10:21

Cloud/cloudy would be better

Johnnysgirl · 19/05/2022 10:24

It would be a very stupid thing to do...

Drew31 · 19/05/2022 10:30

I like it!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 19/05/2022 12:11

I really reallly wouldn't.

It might be a cute baby/toddler name but does not age well...

collieresponder88 · 19/05/2022 12:14

How about kai instead it's a boys name

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 19/05/2022 12:26

I really like Skyler for a boy with Sky as the shortening.

I definitely wouldn't assume Sky to be a girls name. I also don't really know why that assumption would be an awful thing, there's nothing wrong with being female, just say "actually he's a boy" and move on. Both my sons are often mistaken for females and it never bothers me or them.

Rainbowbaby13 · 19/05/2022 13:34

The guy in mamma Mia was called Skye I quite liked it suited him was a bit of a surfer type 😂

Hello606 · 19/05/2022 14:14

Always loved Sky for a boy, I think it’s great.

Fridafever · 19/05/2022 14:26

Yep, these discussions always highlight how sexist everything is. Girls being called slightly (or overtly actually) masculine names are cool because being thought a boy would be a promotion anyway. Boys being called even unisex names are a big no no as being thought a girl is unthinkable and humiliating.

Thats why the direction of travel for unisex names (including Sky) is always for them to become girls’ names over time.

AyeEee123 · 19/05/2022 14:33

No

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/05/2022 14:49

My nephew's middle name in Sky.

plzhelpmepickaname · 19/05/2022 14:50

I know a boy called Skye and again, it quite suits him. So I've always thought of it as a unisex name.

Johnnysgirl · 19/05/2022 14:51

Of course there's nothing wrong with being female. If you happen to be female Confused

Skylar Gaertner is a young actor who plays Jonah in Ozark, so maybe popular name in the US.
