If only dads named babies....

Came across an old thread on baby names husbands/partners had suggested. A common theme seemed to be men suggesting really dated names, like those of school friends/work colleagues, or really out there names of comic book characters. Got me wondering what names would be in the top 10 if only dads were allowed a say in the naming....

To get us started, my DP thought Mark or Steven was the perfect choice for our son born in 2021! Good, solid names he said 😂

Oh and this is possibly outing as these names are pretty rare (and ridiculous), my ex fiancee (who I was with for almost 3 years before DH), when we discussed names for future children, wanted Rolando and Rogero! His surname also started with a Ro sound and ended with an ee sound. I almost died laughing the first time he told me and told him it was a hard NO WAY! 😂
We agreed on Zach and Cameron. I FaceBook stalked him a couple of years ago (because I am nosy) and he has a son called Zach! I found that a bit weird tbh as, when I eventually did have kids, it didn't feel right to discuss names I'd picked with someone else.

Is your ex Wayne Rooney? because in that case, they could definitely pull it off. Otherwise, not so much! Grin

My DH has had okay names to be fair, although our latest addition he suggested Herbert.... thank god shes a girl hahaha

Dh chose our DS's first name. For our daughter he really wanted Marion or Aya.

If it had been entirely up to DH, our firstborn son would have been named fucking Cornelius. Sod that for a game of soldiers, his name is Chris. Which is nice.

If we'd had a girl my really rather sensible and level headed DP insists she would have been called Calypso. And he means it.

I also love the 'names turned down by the registry office' posts. There was one not long back where an office in France had refused the name Bob l'eponge.

It was DEFO a Dad who thought it would be a great idea to call their kid Spongebob!! 😆

But camille or florence for a girl? Was surprised until i realised theyre both characters on Death In Paradise , which he had binged the whole 8 series of in the first lock down hahha door

I have a niece names after the scent of a can of airfreshener curtosy of my db... its a nice name but how he came about it was ... seriously Confused

My dad wanted to call me Alice. My mother vetoed this as "an old ladies' name". He said "Julian then" after Julian of Norwich. And so it was.

I’m currently pregnant with indentical twins, DH has suggested Gary because he’s heard it’s a dying name. There’s a reason for that. Randomly also Churchill (?). So if my twins are both boys they’d be Gary and Churchill.

Girls wouldn’t get off lightly either, they would be Marigold and Everly. Oh and he thought Primrose would be a lovely middle name for Marigold.

No chance!

@muchtootired, people who live opposite to us have Luke (24) and Leia(19). My son was friends with Luke from school and it was quite a while before we found out the name of his sister. Made us smile though.

DS would be called Henrik Larsson. It would be okay whilst we were at home but at large family parties DS would be one of about ten.

We had this conversation too! Henrik Larsson was the star of DHs wedding speech so I reminded him he'd had that moment.

He still wanted it shoehorning in as "middle names".

Didn't happen 😄

Haha. Nope. Coulsdon born and bred! No Spanish or Italian heritage. 🤣🤣 Honestly, I couldn’t impress enough on him that he’d be potentially setting up his kids for awful bullying. With the combined last name…just horrific! 🤣🤣🤣

Gary and Churchill is amazing. So funny. And better than twin names I've taught ( Paul and Pauline. Victor and Victory. Sophie and Sophia ).
Anyway, back to the thread.
I worked with someone who had a dd named Chezni. She said her dh chose it.
My db wanted to name my niece Sally. It's a perfectly nice enough name, but so dated, even 25 years ago. I suggested Eleanor, and my sil loved it. 😍

DH is obsessed with American names like Travis and Seth. I don't hate them but they just remind me of some greasy skater dude from a 90's film like Clueless!

MIL is worse. She suggested Helen or Robert. I didn't realise we were having a 50 year old.
