I love the name skye , i have 3 dds with unusualish names so feel it would fit well but is it too "chavy "
SummaLuvin · 09/05/2022 20:17
It's not a name I love, but there's nothing wrong with it. To me it feels very 2000's as my strongest association is with a Neighbours character from around 2007. Disparaging a name by calling it 'chavvy' is quite elitist, but it happens frequently on this site.
glesgakiss · 09/05/2022 20:18
Im not 100 % in love with it but its only one we can agree on , told my sister though and shes said its "chavvy". Ive never met anyone in real life named it .
Lavendersquare · 09/05/2022 20:26
I'm really not keen on Skye at all.
Crikeyalmighty · 09/05/2022 20:29
I'm often not that keen on unusual/made up names but I actually quite like that-- I don't think it's 'chavvy' and I'm nicely 'middle class' ! Lol
feelinglowandblue · 09/05/2022 20:31
I like it! And it’s easy to get plenty of clothing with the name on due to paw patrol!
MarmiteCoriander · 09/05/2022 20:32
Do you have a Scottish connection to the isle? I love it and have never heard it called chavy! Its less common without being really out there.
Mumofgirls2017 · 09/05/2022 22:00
I like it!
Chocnuts · 09/05/2022 22:05
@Crikeyalmighty you do realise it's not made up? It's a Scottish island.
OP I like it and don't think it's chavvy. I do like island names though, Iona, Lewis, Arran and Harris are all in my faves!
AllyCatTown · 09/05/2022 22:09
Maybe just me but I associate it as a pet’s name though it could work. I don’t see it as “chavy” but I dislike that label.
Unescorted · 09/05/2022 22:14
Skye is a beautiful name. It also has the advantage that it can't have "-ie" added to it or be shortened.
Disadvantages spelling ( sky, ski, skii) make emails difficult. Potential teasing at school Skye Blue, Sky TV....et al.
Luredbyapomegranate · 09/05/2022 23:48
Probably going that way, definitely overused.
Lalliella · 09/05/2022 23:56
Love it OP. Not chavvy at all imo.
calmlakes · 10/05/2022 00:33
As a Scot I reckon the biggest problem is how overused it currently is.
PepsiArcade · 10/05/2022 11:31
I think the people calling it chavvy are English. Island names are perfectly normal names up here
user1492757084 · 10/05/2022 11:35
The Isle of Skye is beautiful and the name reminds me of that. It is fashionable. Do you like it as a second name?
miltonj · 10/05/2022 11:37
Skye is beautiful. I've heard Skylar too.
ButterRose · 10/05/2022 16:25
I love it but it is getting popular so maybe as a second name if that bothers you
bloominglovelyorange · 10/05/2022 17:36
I quite like it.
CatsArePeople · 10/05/2022 17:54
too many pets with that name
Hadtocomment · 10/05/2022 19:17
Other Scottish islandy names might be Arran Jura and Vaila. I like the idea of Arran for a girl after the island but I know Aaron is normally a boys name. Jura makes quite a pretty name.
calmlakes · 10/05/2022 19:23
I think Iona works well and lismore is possible.
FayCarew · 10/05/2022 19:44
Skye isn't too bad but won't go with many surnames
Skylar is awful
Scottishgirl85 · 10/05/2022 19:56
I'm scottish and love it. I'm considering it as a middle name as doesn't seem substantial enough to me for a 1st name. We have a daughter called Iona and get so many compliments.
Classica · 10/05/2022 20:42
I hear Lismore and I think of the pub in Partick.
Cloud16 · 12/05/2022 20:29
Definitely not a made up name... the Isle of Skye.
I like it. I always think it sounds quite a 'free' name :)
