All are lovely except Perry Imo. Perry is a surname. Or that comedy character played by Kathy Burke, friend of Kevin. Dumbass teens go large on the Costa!

For girls:
Mary - I really like Mary. It's a variant of my own name though so I wouldn't personally use it, but it's lovely, sounds fresh and is due a rivival

Frances - not a fan. It sounds very harsh to me. I love Francesca though

Madelyn - pretty but I dislike this spelling

Christabel - I want to like it but I once new a very troubled young girl called Christabel so it makes me feel sad. She didn't like hee name either. I do love Christina

Dorothy - lovely name. It's my daughter's MN though I wanted Dorothea as I think it's even prettier

Boys:
Francis (obviously couldn't have a Frances and a Francis!) - I love Francis on a boy, go figure

Nicholas - lovely classic

Benjamin - love it but not so keen on Ben. I love Benji though

Perry - just think Kevin and Perry

James - another lovely classic

I would choose Mary and Francis - though not together unless Catholic :)

Dorothy and Nicholas would be my second choices

For girls:
Mary- nice but not ready for comeback yet
Frances- bit frumpy again not ready for comeback
Madelyn- Madeline is nice
Christabel- not keen
Dorothy- love

Boys:
Francis (obviously couldn't have a Frances and a Francis!) dated
Nicholas- nice but probably becoming dated
Benjamin- ok
Perry- pear cider
James- nice classic but boring

toastofthetown · 06/05/2022 08:01

Mary - unusual today, still doesn’t feel ready for a comeback, but I quite like it
Frances - I love Frances
Madelyn - I much prefer the Madeleine spelling
Christabel - not a fan
Dorothy - it’s ok, not my favourite revival name

Boys:
Francis (obviously couldn't have a Frances and a Francis!) - I also like Francis, but prefer Frances for a girl
Nicholas - solid
Benjamin - solid and very popular. I know so many Bens
Perry - I prefer this shortened from Peregrine
James - very classic name

Rainbowbaby13 · 06/05/2022 10:19

For girls:
Mary - not a fan very dated
Frances - no
Madelyn - ok
Christabel - never heard this before but love it
Dorothy - love

Boys:
Francis (obviously couldn't have a Frances and a Francis!) - not a fan
Nicholas - love
Benjamin - classic
Perry - no
James - not for me

KirstenBlest · 06/05/2022 11:02

Mary - love
Frances - ok but not keen on Fran, Frankie and Fanny. Will be spelt Francis by many
Madelyn - dislike the spelling, Madeleine is ok
Christabel - Christina is much nicer
Dorothy - love

Boys:
Francis - ok but not keen on Frank(ie). Better as a middle name
Nicholas - like. Nick is fine
Benjamin - like. Ben is fine
Perry - just no
James - love but not as a middle name

ABrightSilverLining · 06/05/2022 12:11

I like Madelyn and James.

20viona · 06/05/2022 12:15

Girls names are dreadful Perry is alright for a boy.

Firebird83 · 06/05/2022 12:47

I like Mary, Frances, Christabel, Dorothy, Francis, Nicholas and James. Lovely lists!

MrsRCBlack · 06/05/2022 12:53

Frances is absolutely gorgeous! As it Francis for a boy. Not a fan of Cristabel or Perry

Hadtocomment · 06/05/2022 14:50

I like Benjamin and James. I also like Frank for Francis. But not sure what shortenings people use these days.

I'm not sure about the girls names. Mary is quite plain and Frances I'm never sure about the shortenings. People who say they don't shorten I question because as a kid I didn't like the formality of long full names and Frances always seems quite formal to me (it's one of my names so I feel I can comment on it). The traditional shortening Fanny which I actually like as a sound but is now unusable obviously but that leaves Fran or franny or Frankie. Which I don't really love the sound of so much. Christobel seems slightly fussy like two names shoved together. I think Chrissie is quite nice though as a shortening. I quite like Christina. Madeleine is nice. Dorothy sounds quite old lady revival style name. I do love that it sounds like a person of character to me. It doesn't fade into the background. It sounds like someone interesting. What shortening though? Dotty? Quite cute but not great for an adult? Dot? I'm not keen on Dot and Dotty. I think the nicest full name is Madeleine. But I also like Chrissie and Dorothy but not so keen on Christobel or Dot.

AlmondyCookie · 06/05/2022 14:52

James is nice. Not personally keen on the others. But obvs nothing wrong with them.

Theoldwoman · 06/05/2022 14:55

I love Frances from your girls list and from your boys list I love: Francis, Benjamin and Nicholas.

KylieCharlene · 06/05/2022 14:57

Love Madelyn but I'd have to spell it Madeline or even better, Madeleine.

Nicholas is lovely and I really lime Nico as a nn.

Really not keen on the others.

pinklavenders · 06/05/2022 14:58

I like Dorothy and Perry.

James is so dull and overused imo.

emmathedilemma · 06/05/2022 16:25

Mary - good but i prefer Dorothy
Frances - dated and not in a trendy way
Madelyn - just blurgh and I don't like that spelling
Christabel - awful, makes me think of fairies and unfortunately the only one I know is anything but fairy-like!
Dorothy -good, due a revival, I quite like Dot as a nn

Francis - makes me think of old priests when used for a boy
Nicholas - good
Benjamin - good
Perry - truly awful
James - good

DramaAlpaca · 06/05/2022 18:57

All very nice names, with the exception of Perry.
