would it be weird to consider it.

Is it Zee—ver or Zeye— va?
I have never come across it before

KayEmAy · 05/05/2022 14:43

LOVE

Also I hope it's not weird because I'm not Jewish either and it is my favorite name. If I have a girl, that's her name :)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/05/2022 14:46

My bff has a daughter with this name. She's not Jewish at all. It really suits her lo

Needmorelego · 05/05/2022 14:47

People would mostly think you are a NCIS fan.
I remember a line in the programme where the character of Ziva said she didn't like her name because it was a 'grandma name'. Presumably like naming your child Doris or Gertrude.
Although Ziva is much prettier.

NewbieDivergent · 05/05/2022 14:50

Love it

SirChenjins · 05/05/2022 14:51

Pronounced Zye-vuh?

It's no weirder than using any other Hebrew name.

CanIKeepDoingThis · 05/05/2022 14:52

isn't that the name of that brazilian virus that affected unborn foetuses?

AskingforaBaskin · 05/05/2022 14:55

I adore the name. I first heard it from NCIS

Needmorelego · 05/05/2022 14:59

@CanIKeepDoingThis no that's Zika Virus.

@CanIKeepDoingThis no that's Zika Virus.

🤣🤣🤣

Nanesnamesname123 · 05/05/2022 15:13

@Nanesnamesname123 I always liked the sound of Ziva's sister (and daughter) too - which was Tali.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 05/05/2022 16:12

I'd assume it was a Hebrew name and maybe assume you were Jewish. Whether a Jewish person might think it strange for a gentile to have that name I'm not sure.

I never watch NCIS so wouldn't make that link. I'm more of a Lennie Briscoe era Law and Order kinda gal. Wink

veronicagoldberg · 05/05/2022 16:25

Means sperm in Hebrew.

CanIKeepDoingThis · 05/05/2022 16:54

What about Zyllah
Seems prettier

Chakraleaf · 05/05/2022 16:57

I instantly thought of Zika.

Needmorelego · 05/05/2022 17:02

@veronicagoldberg out of curiosity I looked it and as a name it means Light of God or Radiance.

Marcipex · 05/05/2022 17:10

I love it. We had a little girl in nursery called this. Her mother said she got it from a book.
It stood out in a good way, as every other girl was named Lily, Lila, Lilah, Lyra, Layla, Isla and Ella.

queenofmay · 05/05/2022 17:25

I think it's a nice name but I wouldn't recommend it if you have Israeli family or acquaintances. I'm going to copy and paste something I read on another website.

"Ziva (זיבה) means "gonorrhea" in modern Hebrew.
Ziva (זיוה) means "shining," "brilliance," etc.
They're one letter different, vav vs. vet, but pretty much no one in Israel uses this name any more because it's almost the same word as gonorrhea. I've run across a few non-Israeli Jewish people who have this as their Hebrew name and have no idea that Israeli people hear that word and think it's gonorrhea."

KayEmAy · 05/05/2022 18:45

That show has so many gems though! It also made me love the name Palmer :)

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/05/2022 23:55

It just sounds like Riva, Reya, Viva etc to me - sort of made up and undistinguished

JamMakingWannaBe · 06/05/2022 00:01

I think it will be misheard as Viva.

ButterRose · 06/05/2022 04:13

I love it but then I'm an NCIS fan as well

Yeah I know no Israeli people and I’m unlikely to come across any.

To be honest I didn't even know it was to do with religion but I'm not even slightly religious
