What are your thoughts on Judah for a boy. I love it and once met an adorable little boy with the name. I also like Jude.

It obviously has a similar sound to popular names such as Noah, Jonah, Ezra etc so why is it not more popular (I know Jude is popular)

I really like it. I can see it being popular in the future with the rise of names like Ezra as you said

LongestBedtimeStoryEver · 03/05/2022 19:31

It’s not popular because it doesn’t sound like an actual name I assume - it sounds like someone has tried to be “unique” and combine 2 names they like the sound of.

I’m sure it has been used before, especially if you met one, but I expect 90% of people would think what I said!

(Now watch me be proved wrong 😊). FWIW I really like Jonah, Jude and Ezra!

Well you asked... Judah is an Old Testament name so it certainly has been used before.

OP, while Judah is rising and I think it will continue to because of similarity to Jude and the drive for softer sounding boys names. I don't know if the similarity to Judas puts people off a little and pushes them to Jude or Jonah.

Yes I like the name Judah. I know one. His parents are very religious so I guess it’s a biblical name.

DogsAndGin · 03/05/2022 20:11

I think it sounds too like Judas

SummaLuvin · 03/05/2022 21:34

Makes me think of the Lady Gaga bop.

orchidsunrise · 03/05/2022 21:49

Judas link is too strong. Plus it just sounds mega religious which I guess is ok if you are?

Mumofgirls2017 · 03/05/2022 22:55

Unfortunately reminds me of Judas

Marty13 · 04/05/2022 02:12

I was gonna say Judas too, and yes very religious. I know a lot of names have roots in religion (especially the three big ones) but some are more mainstream than others. I'm an atheist so that would put me off (although ironically my son's name means gift of god... But I liked the name and it is mainstream).

boronia · 04/05/2022 04:41

Judah is Joseph's brother ( remember the technicolor Dreamcoat musical?) - so yes a religious name. I like it.

Kanaloa · 04/05/2022 06:37

I prefer just Jude personally. I also like Jonah. Judah sounds a little ‘unfinished’ to me.

I can’t say why it’s not more popular though. It’s just one of those things. Why was Judith once popular but not Keziah? Why did Ruth have its moment in the sun but not Zipporah? Some names just get popular while others don’t.

ButterRose · 06/05/2022 10:09

Can't say why it's not more common I don't mind it but prefer Jude
