Wanting to change middle name- baby 9m

Hello!

We had two middle names that we liked; and long story short we now think the other suits her much better!

As she is 9m old- how do we go about changing it?

And in the future will she have to state that she had a previous name at birth etc?

Thank you!

Hi. No, changing a first or middle name before their first birthday is very straightforward. No. She will not have to declare any other names. The amendment is called a space 17 amendment on the birth certificate which will supersede any original names. Hope this helps.

The space 17 is a years grace period if you like. People change their names within that first year hence why there’s an option. Scotland’s law is two years!
