How common is Trixie with Beatrix?

I think people on here talk about nicknames a lot and choosing their nn for their child’s name etc. In real life I find most people just get called their name a lot more.

I don’t know any Beatrixs though so curious how prevalent it is to be known by nickname with this name. So what’s your experience?

I know 2 young children and both are know as Bea.

Marblessolveeverything · 03/05/2022 07:45

Okay in my mind Trixie tends to be a character name for a lap dancer etc. Sorry

Beamur · 03/05/2022 07:46

I think it's a cute nn..but I know several Beatrice's and they all go by Bea.

Holly60 · 03/05/2022 07:48

I think people will naturally shorten it to Bea, but if introduced as Trixie, not think it's an odd nickname IYSWIM

jackstini · 03/05/2022 07:54

I only know of it shortened to Bea.

I guess family can choose a nn and use it from the start, but once they start school, their friends dictate it anyway

I do know 2 dogs called Trixie!

Beatrice is a different name to the OP's proposed Beatrix

Brendabigbaps · 03/05/2022 07:56

A family friend once tried it, we think he was trying to be funny, he got short shrift.
nobody else has tried since. It’s always Bea

AllyCatTown · 03/05/2022 07:59

I don’t like the nn Trixie btw I’m aware you can’t control nn so just wanted to see how common it is. I like the full name but could live with Bea.

Be prepared for Beatrice a lot! Many many people don’t seem to understand it’s a different name.
really annoys me

Well yes, I can read.
But you can use Trixie for either if you wanted and I was referring to the kids I know - who all have the spelling Beatrice.

Beatrice and Beatrix are not the same name. It's not a difference in spelling, it's a difference in the actual name.

It's like saying Mary and Marie are the same name. Yes they are similar and have similar origins but they really are not the same name at all. And Mary's / Marie's get fed up of people thinking they are the same name.

Trixie in no way lends itself to Beatrice I am afraid.

Beamur · 03/05/2022 13:37

Mary and Marie are different names!
If I had a Beatrice and wanted to call her Trixie I would.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/05/2022 13:39

I've never met a Trixie but always liked the name. It reminds me of the Trixie Belden books (the main character's full name was Beatrix). I think those books were written in the 1950s, so it may have been more common then.

Marvellousmadness · 03/05/2022 13:40

Our former Queen was Beatrix
Everyone called her trix

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 03/05/2022 13:42

I love the name Beatrix and would use Trixie as a nickname if I had one. All the beatrix’s I know are Bea which I don’t like as much.
it puts me in mind of the 1950s and pony stories. I can imagine a Trixie flying over jumps at the local gymkhana on a lovely fat pony

caringcarer · 03/05/2022 13:43

I knew a dog called Trixy.

FiddleFigs · 03/05/2022 13:43

I have a Beatrix. There's another in her class, and at school mine goes by Trix, the other as Bea (as decided by their classmates). At home they're both Beatrix.

NerdyBird · 03/05/2022 13:48

I think Bea is a more common nickname these days. Also though, Trixie is a Call the Midwife character and I think her full name is meant to be Beatrix so if you're thinking of using it that's something to bear in mind.

I don't think Trixie is that common or trendy right now.

However, if you strongly dislike it to the point you couldn't live with it then don't use Beatrix. Trixie is a natural and well known diminutive option, even if it is fairly unpopular, it is not out of the realms of possibility your Beatrix would become a Trixie, and there is no way for you to ensure it won't happen.

I know two Beatrix's but both go by Bea not Trixie
