Which boy name to go with Carter

We’re struggling to decide which boys name goes best with our son’s name, Carter Jace. We have decided we aren’t finding out the gender until birth. We have decided on Aspen Grace for a girl, but can’t decide on one name. It’s between Ashton and Rexley for us.

Definitely Ashton!

DramaAlpaca · 29/04/2022 22:55

Are you in the US? They're all very 'American style' names. Just curious, I'm not being critical.

As for the names, I like Ashton a lot.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 29/04/2022 23:15

Rexley sounds like the name of some brooding love interest in an American daytime soap. A bit made up. Rex is nice though.

Don't mind Ashton but it's very associated with Kutcher. Other names I think might go well with Carter are:

Wyatt
Jesse
Lucas
Nate
Brody

I'd avoid anything ending in -er as it would sound too matchy-matchy.

I’m in England. I found my son’s name online and I never heard of another Carter until he was 4 (he’s now almost 6). Aspen is also another name I discovered online. Ashton is a name I’ve heard several times, and I recently heard the name Rexley which I think is a really cool name and I’ve never heard of anyone else called it so I added it to our baby names list.

Ashton is lovely, I’m sorry but Rexley is terrible and sounds like a name for a dog not a child

Thesearmsofmine · 29/04/2022 23:22

Ashton is much nicer than Rexley which to me sounds like the name of a dog treat brand.

Nelliephant1 · 29/04/2022 23:31

There were Carters in my sons class ten years ago.

Rexley is awful. Please go for something a bit more run of the mill, your child has to live with the name you give and you're not doing either of them any favours giving them ridiculous names just because you've never heard of them before. There's a reason why you haven't heard of them!

Nelliephant1 · 29/04/2022 23:32

Oh and Aspen is a pretty common name for girls in America so body swerve that one too.

TrashyPanda · 29/04/2022 23:56

Rexley sounds like the name of a rugby league team.

Bratnews · 29/04/2022 23:58

Not one of your two but it should be Cash !

anewername · 30/04/2022 08:05

Miller

inappropriateraspberry · 30/04/2022 08:20

Showing my age here - Carter the unstoppable sex machine!
Agree all very American choices. And all sound like surnames.
Stick with the theme and go for Blacksmith or Wheelwright. 😆
Actually, Cooper could be an option I. The style of names you're looking at. Also a profession like Carter.

Firebird83 · 30/04/2022 11:41

Ashton is much nicer than Rexley!

Aspen Grace and Carter
Rex and Carter
Tex and Carter

Rex Jonathan
Rex Albert
Tex Leon

SunshiningBoo · 30/04/2022 11:55

I prefer Ashton.

BelperLawnmower · 30/04/2022 12:02

I agree OP that thinking out of the box is a great way to look for kids' names. We've no idea what names will seem good or bad in thirty years, so go for it. Here are some to add to the list

Sawyer
Stetson
Maverick
Charleston
Jettley
Rykerton
Paxton
Rowdy
Hiawatha
Hendrix

feelinglowandblue · 30/04/2022 12:02

I love these types of names also!

what about:

reagan
walker
cash
blake
drake
Logan
stone
roman
brady
Bo
lincoln
holden

Neonskytonight · 30/04/2022 12:04

Carter and Brad

Strugglingtodomybest · 30/04/2022 12:18

@inappropriateraspberry Carter USM was my first thought too! Maybe OP could choose Jim Bob if it's a boy?!

I agree that Rexley sounds like a dog's name. My parents are both from Ashton-Under-Lyne so I suppose I should count myself lucky I didn't get called Ashton!

I like Aspen, I know an 18 year old girl called that.

KirstenBlest · 30/04/2022 13:52

Rexley is awful. Not mad about Ashton. Rex is ok

Not sure about Aspen, and Grace is a filler middle name

ButterRose · 07/05/2022 09:22

Aspen is nice not sure on Grace though, Rex I like but Rexley sounds made up to me, Ashton I don't mind but I don't love it either how about Chester, Mason or Oliver
