What are your opinions on these names and what's your favourite and least favourite? Thanks.

Emma, Alice, Lucy, Louisa, Freya, Rose, Eve are all pleasant names. Lots of Emmas in their 40s though so wouldn't choose.
Maria is awful. Way too religious in my opinion.

Longdistance · 29/04/2022 23:35

Alice. I have one. She’s such a character.

Emma - dislike but I do love Emily
Alice - My number one on your list
Lucy - Number two
Louisa - Too dated for me
Maria - Least favourite
Freya - Equal with Rose
Rose - as above
Eve - Third favourite.

mathanxiety · 30/04/2022 04:23

In order, imo

Alice - love this name, so elegant and cool
Louisa - great name, elegant
Eve - simple, classic

Emma - fourth place because it's very popular, but a lovely name, can't go wrong

Tied for last:
Lucy/Maria/Freya/Rose
Lucy - can't shake Loosey Goosey from my head
Maria - 'The hills are alive..'
Freya - wispy name
Rose - fusty

mathanxiety · 30/04/2022 04:29

Overall, lovely names, but I think you're being over-cautious. Have a look at the top 100 girl names. There are lots of classics there.

Cicely is popular at the moment because it's an old lady name.

Girlmama · 30/04/2022 08:02

My eldest is Emma Alice so obviously they're my favourites on your list!

Magnoliayellowbird · 30/04/2022 08:05

I like lost except for Freya and Maria, which sounds too 'Sound of Music' to me.

Awrite · 30/04/2022 08:08

Favourites are Lucy and Emma. Also, totally love Eliza.

Not keen on Alice or Maria

The rest are nice.

inappropriateraspberry · 30/04/2022 08:12

All lovely, classic names. Particularly like Emma and Alice.
Nothing wrong with any of them, you don't have to give your child a 'yooneek' name. I doubt there would be any with the same name once she's at school.

A580Hojas · 30/04/2022 08:20

My favourites are Louisa and Maria. I strongly, strongly dislike Alice for some unknown reason.

OutlookStalking · 30/04/2022 08:22

Lots of people saying Emma etc are popular but they really arent amongst children. I work across 5-12s and have only come across one Emma for example. Yes every other 40 year old was Emma but its at all common on a child (around here anyway!)

Emily is more common (was top 3 for a bit wasnt it) so would stick with Emma.

Similarly with Alice and Lucy - do my ears in my 40s they are classic names, but quite rare among 5-12s I know so I think a fab choice.

I don't like -a names so would choose Louise over Louisa. Mary over Maria.

PlumPearPud · 30/04/2022 08:25

I love Maria. Simple, classic, not overused in the UK for babies right now, works in many countries.

I find Lucy too cutesy, and I thought Emma was dreadfully dull in the 80s when every other girl was called Emma…feel the same now.

WhereIsMyBrain · 30/04/2022 10:50

Cicely is lovely too and not too out there at all, if that’s holding you back.

Underhisi · 30/04/2022 12:09

I like them all. I like classic names. Emma is my favourite, then Maria. Freya was very popular recently which puts me off it a bit and I wouldn't choose Eve because of all the Evies.

inappropriateraspberry · 30/04/2022 12:34

Cecily is beautiful, I also love Clara and Cara. I think I read too many old fashioned books when little like A Little Princess and Heidi!

KirstenBlest · 30/04/2022 13:49

Emma - classic, unfussy. Would use
Alice - classic, unfussy. Would use
Lucy - classic, unfussy. Like
Louisa - like
Maria - like, works internationally
Freya - nice when I only knew one. Now meh
Rose - not keen, very boring as a middle name. Like Rosalind, Rosamund and Rosanna. Not keen on Rosa, Rosemary and Rosale. Rosie too popular
Eve - nice when I only knew one. Still nice but I dislike Eva, Evelyn, Ava, Ivy etc and it just blends in with those

user1492757084 · 01/05/2022 02:00

I like Lucy, Louisa, Emma and Rose best for a first name.

I like Alice as a second name following a name without an SSS sound. ie Mary Alice or Jane Alice.

Salutatorydrinks · 01/05/2022 02:17

Maria is a beautiful name to say. It flows and works beautifully at any age. It won't date because it's already dated. I think it will become more popular soon as it's been overlooked until now.

Louisa is lovely but I don't like the eez sound.

Ultimately it's very subjective and who cares if people like it or not. You're the one who will be saying it.

Alice and Eve are very overused. Likely to be two in the class. Emma was so overused in the 80s that we are still saturated.

Lucy is a difficult name to dislike and a child or adult could carry it lightly. My only misgiving is that it seems very slight, somehow. It's difficult not to think of gingham. That said, I would be delighted to meet a baby Lucy. Make sure you like Lulu and Luce though! I like Juliet but could never use it because I can't stand Jules.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/05/2022 10:00

Love Emma
like Louisa
Don’t personally like Maria but nothing wrong with it

I’d strike off Lucy because it’s wet and Alice, Freya, Rose and Eve because they’ve all been done to death recently

jytdtysrht · 01/05/2022 13:45

This business of two in the class - we have a funny thing at our school. There is only one Grace, one Jack, one Oliver etc But there are duplicates of far more unusual names - duplicates of a girl and a boy who are both outside the top 100 names. Because their parents wanted them not to be one of two in a class - and now they are! Referred to as Amadeus P and Amadeus S (Amadeus isn't the name but along those lines) exactly as their parents didn't want!

Basic, safe names are popular for a reason. They do the job perfectly. Any of the names you have chosen are nice. And in the future with a complete lack of privacy it may be nice to be difficult to google! Alice Green or similar. Nice name, loads of them, hard to locate.

RosesAndHellebores · 01/05/2022 14:03

When dd started school in 2002 there were 3 Alice's and 3 Imogens out of 12 girls! Once she was in 6th form there was an Alice and an Imogen in every year of about 80 girls. Quite interesting there was such a concentrated demograph in one particular school!

OutlookStalking · 01/05/2022 18:50

Wow that's a tiny secondary school!

aleebaleebee · 01/05/2022 23:07
