Hi everyone,

we are having our second daughter in August and for the life of us can’t decide on a name. We have a daughter named Bella Blue already and was hoping for some suggestions.

Our list so far:
Alba
Lacie
Nixie
Indie
Gigi
Sydney - my fave
Lumi
Lennie
Bonnie
Maeve
Eden
Roxie - husbands fave

but none are jumping out on us! Help please :)

Before reading your options, I thought od Nellie and Elin or Elina, other names with L-sounds.
Pixie?

Sydney Scarlett
Lumi - very popular in Finland, wold people know how to pronounce it?
Lennie - isn't this a boy's name?
Bonnie - sorry to me this is a cow's name like Clover
Maeve - yes love this
Eden - a river
Roxie - okay

user3199 · 27/04/2022 13:33

Most of these aren't really my style so feel free to ignore my opinion! But from your list I like Alba and Maeve, and Sydney and Eden are also ok. For me, these four are the best by a long shot.

Much prefer Lucy to Lacie. Bonnie ok but not with Bella.

Nixi and Lumi don't seem like real names to me, and Lennie is more of a nickname. How is Gigi pronounced Gee-Gee?

Hate Roxie, sorry.

My aunt is called Sydney (aged about 75) and it's a lovely name but some people assumed she was male (maybe not a bad thing necessarily to have some confusion). Also difficulty spelling it often I think

YvanEhtNiojYvanEhtNioj · 27/04/2022 14:21

Maeve is the only nice name on your list. The rest are terrible especially Nixie and Gigi.
What about Luna instead of Lumi? Or Adelaide instead of Sydney?

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/04/2022 14:52

Of those I’d agree Sidney, otherwise Roxana nn Roxie (just Roxie is too nightclub). Otherwise Alba is fine. Rest pretty grim TBH - I know Gigi is fun but your daughter will have to live with this name, so give her one that doesn’t sound like a random nn you thought up for a laugh.

Agree @BunnyFree I'm also not keen on it being shortened to Sid!

Alba - cheap 1980s stereo, Scotland
Lacie - Lacey is a better spelling but it's awful anyway
Nixie - Nix means 'nothing' . Pixie or Dixie is better
Indie - no
Gigi - no, and not with Bella
Sydney - no, Sidonie maybe
Lumi - no
Lennie - Henry
Bonnie - Eminem's Stan, euphemism for chubby
Maeve - not keen
Eden - horrible
Roxie - awful

BunnyFree · 27/04/2022 16:12

Indeed it is generally shortened to Sid in our family

I haven't seen it on here just a suggestion which you could consider as i think the two names sound lovely but if you have a bella blue, what about beau-bella? So she has her older sisters name after hers 😁 i think they sound catchy tbh just a suggestion x

AlwaysBeAMummyTo6 · 27/04/2022 17:55

also beau means beautiful x

SmiledWtherisingsun · 27/04/2022 17:56

Leah

FayCarew · 27/04/2022 19:15

Beau-Bella has to be a joke

Firebird83 · 27/04/2022 19:16

Alba and Maeve are ok, not keen on the others.

MisguidedSheep · 27/04/2022 19:34

Alba - how are you pronouncing it? With a b or v sound (prefer v sound)
Lacie - prefer Lexi or Lacey
Nixie - don't like this one
Indie - ok
Gigi - love this!
Sydney - my fave - prefer this spelled Cydney
Lumi - sounds too much like Lumea (the hair removal device for my liking)
Lennie - cute, Leonora - nn Lennie or Nora
Bonnie - love this too
Maeve - ok
Eden - absolutely my favourite - think this is a gorgeous name
Roxie - husbands fave - prefer Roxanne

Have you thought about

  • Lux (means light - love this name)
  • Nova
  • Hero
  • Juniper or Juno
  • Indigo - nn Indie
