Em or Emmy. But usually just Emily.

What she said!

Isn't Millie / Milly the most common nn?

Most I know are Em. Milly would work to, but every Emily I’ve know has been Em.

Kanaloa · 21/04/2022 13:21

Em. Or maybe EJ depending on middle name. Personally I think Milly is a bit awkward as a nickname for Emily. I see Milly as a nickname for Millicent or a name on it’s own and think it’s not natural as a nickname for Emily.

TheSandgroper · 21/04/2022 13:22

Every Emily I’ve ever known has always been Emily. Emma’s now, they get Em. But Emily is Emily.

Knockon · 21/04/2022 13:26

My sister gets called Em, I call her Emery for my own amusement Grin

Ineedshoes · 21/04/2022 13:26

I’m an Emily. I’ve never been called Millie. Most people call me Emily or Em.

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 21/04/2022 13:27

As an Emily, I can tell you that I have never been called Milly. Usually it’s just Emily or sometimes Em.

DoorLion · 21/04/2022 13:28

The Millies I know are all Amelias or Camillas. The Emilys I know are alll Em or Emily.
Emily is such a pretty name it seems a shame to shorten it.

Why would anyone call a child named Emily the totally different and unrelated name Lily just because it shares a few letters 🫤 I see this all the time on mumsnet and some other websites and it makes no sense. Like ‘oh I love the name Sarah what could it be short for?’ And people saying stuff like ‘oh what about Selena?’ Lily is a name on its own, or short for Lillian/Lilliana.

If someone told me their child was Emily with the nickname Lily I’d think they were a bit daft and should have just chosen the name they actually wanted to call their child.

Marmite27 · 21/04/2022 17:40

I’m guessing you’re not looking for Emberly-Bemberly-Boo?

Emily does have several nicknames, a PP pooh-poohed Lily, but I do know an Emily who is known as Lily and one known as Mily. As well as the obvious Ems, Em, Emmo, Emmy.

If a child called Emily wants to be known as Lily, who says she can’t? Hmm

I've never known an Emily with a nn other than Em or Emmy, certainly not Millie .

Nobody says she can’t. She could also be known as Jane or Carla or Diana if she wants. None of them are nicknames for Emily though. If you want to name your child Lily then name her Lily, not Emily.

I totally agree.

MysticCT · 21/04/2022 17:45

I know one called Mimi, as her brother couldn't pronounce her name correctly.
