Hello,

We are not from the UK originally and we will name our baby boy a family name because of tradition, which name is a bit complicated for British ears.

We are thinking of introducing him and calling him Ari as a nn, which is also a standalone name in our home country.

Would that go well in the UK? What do you think about it?

We will pronounce it like Harry with 'H' dropped. ''A'' like apple and ''ri'' like tree.

Ari is fine. I know plenty among my religious community here in the UK. I doubt anyone would have problems with the pronunciation but you might get 'Aaah-ree'.

What is the longer version?

I know a 50 year old Ari. I like it. He pronounces to rhyme with Harry.

FelicityPike · 20/04/2022 15:35

It’s fine. I’ve known a few Ari’s over the years.

SpringLobelia · 20/04/2022 15:37

It also emans 'Lion' in Hebrew which is a lovely connotation in my opinion. :)

Ari is nice and works for both a child and an adult. Go for it!

I've never heard the name Ari before but I love it!

I know a few Jewish Aris and I like it a lot.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/04/2022 19:43

Are you Jewish? Ari is fairly common in the Jewish community.

Libertaire · 20/04/2022 19:53

Ari is a fairly common Jewish name, so it should be absolutely fine.

LowbrowVictoriana · 20/04/2022 23:02

I think it's lovely 🙂
