Which of these is your favourite for a nickname for Elizabeth?

None of them. Lily is overused, Lilli looks wrong, Lilibet only if you are also called EIIR, Bettina is ok but almost as long as Elizabeth

peaceinourtime · 17/04/2022 10:34

Zizi is nice nickname is Elizabeth, its not very common though.

PainterMummy · 17/04/2022 11:16

Lilibet is awful. I could not take someone seriously with that name. Think about their future - could she have a serious profession and people not giggle with a frivolous name?

Liz (maybe Lizzie as a child) Beth, Betty, Eliza - all reasonable and solid nicknames.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/04/2022 12:20

@SpiderinaWingMirror

None of these are nicknames for Elizabeth, Lilibet if you have blue blood. Assuming you don't, Liz, Lizzie, or Beth. Of those I like Beth.
@SpiderinaWingMirror

They are all established nicknames for Elizabeth.

I don’t like any of them much though OP - Libby, Lizbie, Elsa and Eliza are all nice

Purpleroseas · 17/04/2022 13:42

Bettina is awful. It's a very dated German name. I've never associated it with Elizabeth Confused

Purpleroseas · 17/04/2022 13:43

Why do you need to plan any potential nicknames?

Purpleroseas · 17/04/2022 13:43

The most natural shortening is Liz

Moochio · 17/04/2022 13:44

Just go with what comes naturally

Howeverdoyouneedme · 17/04/2022 13:46

Betsy or Effie

SpringGeraniums · 17/04/2022 13:49

@Ariela

Or, if like my friend's daughter you hate Elizabeth and all derivatives, you become Zabe, pronounced Zay Be. It suits her (a bit goth).
Liking it!
Purpleroseas · 17/04/2022 13:49

Try saying Elizabeth quickly.

What short forms come naturally?

comealongponds · 17/04/2022 13:51

If you want a Lily just call her Lily

My favourite nn for Elizabeth is Libby

SunshiningBoo · 17/04/2022 14:13

Lilli

Purpleroseas · 17/04/2022 15:16

Lily is a name in its own right.

It has nothing to do with Elizabeth...

KirstenBlest · 17/04/2022 15:20

@Purpleroseas, it is also a diminutive of Elizabeth

ArtVandalay · 17/04/2022 15:25

They’re all awful or not a derivative or Elizabeth. Bettina? Atrocious. Lilibet would just be copying the RF and is just a daft name.

I have an aunt Elizabeth, known as Libby and her granddaughter is Elizabeth, known as Lizzie.

HorribleDryHair · 17/04/2022 15:32

Lillibet will tell everyone you're a family of ardent royalists 👑 it's not a diminutive of Elizabeth and never has been, it's literally what Queenie's younger sister mispronounced her name as. It's like calling your kid Ommo because a younger sibling of someone famous couldn't pronounce Thomas or something. It's totally personal to that family.

urbanbuddha · 17/04/2022 15:46

Lily.
Or Lizzie or Betsy? Definitely not Lilibet.

Anotherpassengerwantstogetoff · 17/04/2022 15:48

@chubbachub

Bettina is just awful.

I like Beth or Lizzie.

Why can I only hear Betina in Miss Piggy’s voice?

Too much Muppets Christmas carol I think!

HorribleDryHair · 18/04/2022 00:10

Lizzie or Libby is nice and the right balance of normal and unusual. Both can be shortened even further to Liz or Lib. Libby might be assumed to be short for Liberty. Betty is quite twee but seems to be popular in nappy valley type places. Bet makes me think of Bet Lynch from Corrie - leopard print, ciggies and pints of mild. Betsy is is awful imho. Beth is nice but might be assumed it's short for Bethany. Ditto Izzie now associated with Isabel (and various other spellings of the name) so people will think it's short for that. Never heard of Lily as a nickname for Elizabeth but I have heard of Lil; it was someone extremely old though.

Thehundredthnamechange · 18/04/2022 06:15

None. There are so many great nicknames for Elizabeth but these ones are all awful, sorry, and they're not even actual nicknames for Elizabeth!
