Hi, we’re expecting our first baby in early June and are still indecisive on names. For girls, we like the names:
Amelia nn Millie (ik this is popular but I’ve always loved it), Stella, Daisy and Juliette with the middle names (we like using 2 middle names) Winslet Blythe
For boys, we’re a bit more stuck, but we’ve got:
Frederick nn Freddie, Alexander nn Alex/Xander, Leo and Louis. For middle names, we aren’t set but we’re leaning towards Maverick Dylan
Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated!

Stella is the WORST

Glitterbiscuits · 15/04/2022 21:34

Maverick will tie in nicely with the new Top Gun film coming out soon

DoorLion · 15/04/2022 21:37

I m not sure about Juliette Winslet with both the let sounds together.
I like Stella and Daisy, and I think Amelia Winslet Blythe sounds great, like an Anne of Green Gables character.
Not a massive fan of Maverick, it sounds like an adjective when put with another name - like saying Independent James or Dangerous Austin. Like all your first name choices though.

bluebird42 · 15/04/2022 21:43

Kind of back tracking on Maverick now, I wasn’t 100% before hand. Other options we had for middle names were:
Shepherd Dylan
Hunter Dylan
Fletcher (but don’t think this goes with Dylan)

I like Stella, Juliette and Alexander.

Not keen on Winslet or Maverick.

GiantSweetcorn · 15/04/2022 22:13

Amelia is probably your best - I wouldn't want to be an adult called Daisy, and I think Stella is bad. Juliette feels too much. But Winslet Blythe is honestly awful unless there is some family connection.
Your boys names are all nice - Alex is my favourite! I like Dylan as well but all your other middle name suggestions feel very Americanised.

WeasilyPleased · 15/04/2022 22:28

I am really not a fan of Stella. It's not nice. Daisy Winslet Blythe sounds like a flapper girl. I quite like it because of that. Amelia is so overused now and Juliette doesn't go with Winslet.
How about Sylvia?

WeasilyPleased · 15/04/2022 22:29

I'm sorry I'm not commenting on your boy's names but I don't like the surnames/ job titles at all.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/04/2022 22:30

Stella and Alexander

Juliette is a bit fussy, especially spelt like like, and Daisy a bit wet.

Step away from Maverick because the poor lad will probably a be a rule abiding accountant and feel like a failure for life.

Is Winslet after the actress? Anyway if you are using a surname as a given name it normally goes at the end - Stella Blythe Winslet, Alexander Dylan Hunter. It does sound odd stuck in the middle.

Thehundredthnamechange · 16/04/2022 04:29

I love all the girls first names but I don't like Winslet Blythe as it already sounds like a double-barrelled surname and I feel that adding another surname on there would just seems like your child had three surnames for some reason? I would use one of the other first name options as the potential middle name and lose Winslet which is too surnamey and I'd assume was a tribute to Kate if I'm honest!

For example:

Stella Daisy Juliette Surname
Daisy Blythe Juliette Surname
Juliette Daisy Blythe Surname

I really don't like Maverick and think it's a bit much compared to the very normal Dylan? I also don't like Shepherd which isn't really a name is it? Hunter just makes me think of hunting, and Fletcher sounds like retch to me. I like all the boys first name options though and would again choose a nice middle name using the unused first name:

Frederick Louis Alexander Surname
Leo Frederick Alexander Surname
Alexander Leo Frederick Surname
Louis Frederick Alexander Surname

I think your first name options are all lovely and classy but the middle name options are a bit naff - sorry - except Blythe.

Thehundredthnamechange · 16/04/2022 04:31

Didn't see Amelia on the list. Hate Amelia! So whiney and overdone

spearmynt · 16/04/2022 04:47

Juliette and Leo! I adore both.

GoodSoup · 16/04/2022 08:15

Maverick is a lot to live up to. Not a fan of Amelia only because it’s just so over done as is Millie which just feel a bit wet. Feels like there’s a 100 Millie’s in our school playground.

Juliet is nice and I like Alex and Leo.

MrsBertBibby · 16/04/2022 08:27

Maverick is just polite for arsehole, surely?

Hunter/Shepherd/Fletcher type names are really naff imo. Dislike Dylan, it sounds dopey to me.

Alexander and Frederick are both brilliant names, Louis is good too.

Electrox · 16/04/2022 08:31

Daisy Juliette Blythe
Amelia Juliette Daisy

Frederick Leo Dylan
Alexander Louis Dylan

Kierkegaardslover · 16/04/2022 08:31

Stella Winslet Blythe sounds incredible- like a character from a book or an actress. It's quite a strong name.

Amelia is one of the top babies names, Daisy is a bit flat. Juliette is ok but I think your kid might find it annoying to spell out all the time, Julia might be better but then like Daisy is a bit flat

DoorLion · 16/04/2022 09:02

I don’t know why the hate for Stella, I think it is a lovely name, lovely sound, lovely meaning. Did everyone know a horrible Stella at school or is it the beer?

itssquidstella · 16/04/2022 09:32

@Sponge19 Stella is the BEST.

Rainbowqueeen · 16/04/2022 09:40

I’d ditch Maverick.
Other than that, your names are lively. Why not wait and see what suits baby best??

bluebird42 · 16/04/2022 09:41

so it looks like the middle names are too controversial, and if everyone else is going to react this way i’d rather not use them.
so i’m now thinking:
stella juliette blythe
alexander louis frederick
thoughts?

JellyDeels · 16/04/2022 09:42

Exactly what @Thehundredthnamechange said. I was thinking Winslet Blythe sounds like a double barrelled surname, and all your boys middle names are too surnamey as well. I have never heard of Shepherd or Fletcher used as given names, and I think there's a reason for that.

bluebird42 · 16/04/2022 09:46

@Rainbowqueeen I think we will still do this as we’re not telling anyone the names anyway. but i’d still like to have a “front runner” if that makes sense

OP posts:
DuchessOfSausage · 16/04/2022 12:04

Amelia nn Millie - a no from me
Stella - fine, Estella is nice too. Will be Stell
Daisy - ok, a bit nohingy
Juliette - Juliet is much nicer

Winslet Blythe - no to both, as both are surnames

Frederick nn Freddie, Alexander nn Alex/Xander, Leo and Louis.
All ok

Maverick - awful
Dylan - only ok said the Welsh way

itssquidstella · 16/04/2022 12:08

@bluebird42

stella juliette blythe
alexander louis frederick

Are both gorgeous names 😊

ILoveYou3000 · 16/04/2022 12:16

Stella Juliette Blythe is pretty.

Alexander Frederick Louis flows better, but this is a great choice. Timeless with lots of good nickname options.
