Thoughts on Noor for a girl? I think it's quite pretty

Arabic for light. I find Noor to be masculine for girl I like Nura or Nuri

Fairly popular but I wouldn't use it if I wasn't from an arab/muslim heritage.

My local takeaway used to be called The Noor Tandoori so it'd be a no from me

In Scotland this would rhyme with an unfortunate derogatory word for a woman meaning prostitute. That would put me off, though I have known a couple of girls with the name, I assume their families did not hang around with the wee jakies I am thinking of who would tease her

Sounds a bit like ‘no’ in some parts of the country

Noura is lovely too but as pp said I wouldn’t use it without Middle Eastern heritage

I love it. It has a beautiful meaning, can be used for a girl or a boy, various spellings in English are available and there are options for names derived from it as well if you prefer them. It's a very elegant name imo.

Lovely, would assume Arabic heritage. Have only known as a female name.

I knew a Noor about seven years ago, she was in early twenties and lovely. She was also of Indian extraction if that's relevant.
