I love Peter. I think it's such a handsome name and there are some great children's literary connection with it (Peter Rabbit, Peter Pan, Narnia). I strongly dislike Pete though.

You can be at the vanguard, especially if you call his sister Jane.

I loathe it because of a personal association, but there's nothing wrong with it. A bit wet-sounding.

When I was young Peter was the name of strong adventurous characters in books and films.
I think it’s a great name and with no nerdy overtones.
I’d go for it if you both like it’s no negatives
