Please can you suggest a top 3 list for a girl’s name, pretty but not frilly that is…

Botanical/ Latin in origin
Two syllables
Outside the top 50

Bonus points for-

Having a ‘v’ or an ‘ss’ sound somewhere in it.
Being outside the top 100
Not beginning with an ‘A’ or a ‘R’

We have 3 weeks…

Sylvie is the one that instantly seems to meet all your criteria (I think...). Or Sylvia if you can stretch to 3 syllables. Silvia for extra Latin chic.

finallychangedmyusername · 09/04/2022 15:59

I love a challenge and these all match your requirements!

Iris (rank 77)
Zia (rank 1065)
Hazel (rank 153)
Vita (rank 2615)
Stella (rank 284)
Sara (rank 102)
Estelle (rank 1100)
Olive (rank 99)
Yvette (rank 3899)

My favourite 3 would be (in order): Vita, Estelle and Sara (with Zia as a close 4th favourite)

Clover

Thank you all so much! There’s lots of my friend’s daughters names on here that I’m having to immediately disregard- and I think you’ve all totally got my vibe.

I’ve also got an opinionated DH which, you know, is, ummm, a good thing. He’s nixed Cleo, Juno and Gaia.

I’m excited though- Elva is a contender.

Avocado22 · 09/04/2022 20:34

The meadow, posey, daphne vein is a little on the cutesy side for me.

I’m not sure I can get past the beer for Stella- though I do kinda like it.

Blossom
Clover

If three syllables would work...
Jessamy
Marigold
Viola

Aspidistra1 · 09/04/2022 20:47

Have played a bit fast and loose with the brief, rather more Greek than Latin but:

Elvira
Viola
Cassandra
Tansy
Elyssa

Linnea is a girl's name of Swedish origin meaning "twinflower, lime tree".
Linnea is an attractive Scandinavian name that derives from the renowned 18th century Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus, who developed the Linnean system of classifying plants and animals.

Or Linden? Lyra?

Elva good for Elvis fans... If you like Elva, what about Fae or Alba? Silva or Sylva?

Avocado22 · 15/04/2022 17:22

So the combined list stands as

Lyra
Tess
Astrid
Elva

Any more thoughts- especially the more unusual end of the spectrum?

Hadtocomment · 15/04/2022 17:39

What about Salvia? That has a s and a v and it means sage and is a name - quite unusual.

Sorrel?

Pember · 15/04/2022 23:34

Vera
Flora
Cassia
Aster (cool flower name)
Fern
Calla
Suvi
Sylvie
Maren
Svea
Vada
Tulsi
Elowen
