So these baby girl names go together?

Hi!

I’m pregnant with my second baby, a little girl, and am due in September.

I already have a baby girl called Elise and I feel it’s important that the name we choose for her little sister goes with hers.

I have absolutely fallen in love with the name Vivienne, I think it’s just beautiful. I read a thread though that the name has a certain style and any siblings names need to be in the same style. This made me think, most probably way to hard... Grin

Do you reckon Vivienne goes well with Elise?

Enko · 02/04/2022 12:25

Yes I think they are a good match

ISmellBurnings · 02/04/2022 12:46

Hmm I wouldn’t say so as I see Vivienne as an ‘old lady’ name. Maybe because it’s the name of an elderly relative. I’m not a fan of it. Or ‘Viv’ as a nn. It’s frumpy.

I love Elise. It’s cool and unusual.

If you love it though, then use it.

SweedeyTodd · 02/04/2022 13:04

Thank you for your input! I certainly agree with “Viv” being rather frumpy. Where I am, however, I don’t think there is any risk of anyone calling her that, with “Vivi” being the more obvious nickname.

But again, thanks for your input. I don’t know anyone, elderly or not, called either Elise or Vivienne so they’re just names to me if that makes sense.

I think they go very well together. Both are beautiful names.

Having said that, try not to worry too much about how they look together on paper or shouted from the kitchen right now. Once the baby is here and she has her own name, it will become ‘her’ and it will go with her sister’s because you’ll always see them together and associate them with each other regardless of names.

My sister and I have vastly different names - from different languages and cultures even - and on paper they don’t ‘go’ but in reality they’re the best match because they weren’t the defining part of our relationship growing up - we created that ourselves if that makes sense.

TLDR - don’t overthinking it too much until the baby is here Smile

Tsuni · 02/04/2022 13:20

They sound nice together.

SweedeyTodd · 02/04/2022 13:30

Thank you so much, you’re absolutely right Flowers

I think they sound beautiful together.

I'd also echo a PP and say don't overthink it! It's nice when names "go" (and I think, objectively, these two do) but your girls will make the names what they are for you, and give them their own meaning. The names will belong together because your girls belong together, as sisters and as your beautiful daughters :)

SweedeyTodd · 02/04/2022 14:26

@delshell Both you and @EileenGC put it so beautifully and you’re absolutely right! I am quite touched actually Blush

I do have a tendency to overthink things and this is certainly one of those things. Thank you!

Names usually go together because chosen by the same parents, don't worry

SweedeyTodd · 02/04/2022 15:05

@JanglyBeads Good point! Thank you!

I don't find the name Vivienne frumpy or old ladyish it's gorgeous I know a sweet little 5 yo Vivienne and her name absolutely suits her nn is as you said Vivi

SweedeyTodd · 02/04/2022 15:29

@ButterRose aw, she sounds sweet. I don’t find the name itself frumpy at all, but I do realise people have different associations when it come to older names as both Vivienne and Elise are. My DP have vetoed lots of names due to such
associations. Luckily Vivienne isn’t one of them.

Thanks for taking the time!

Yes, lovely names

DramaAlpaca · 02/04/2022 21:38

They are good together. I prefer Vivien over Vivienne as it's less frilly but sounds the same, but that's just me.

WeasilyPleased · 02/04/2022 22:57

I think they're very pretty together and a great match in style and coolness!

SweedeyTodd · 03/04/2022 08:08

Thank you all! Flowers

Both Vivienne and Elise are on the rise, so neither would be seen as frumpy anymore

They are both French influenced so they do go well

Maireas · 03/04/2022 10:11

I don't think Vivienne or Viv sound "frumpy"at all. Choose what name you like, don't consider if it "goes" in any way, just avoid names that are too similar and avoid the same initial.

Maireas · 03/04/2022 10:12

Yes, I think it looks better.
Reminds me of Vivien Leigh.

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/04/2022 09:43

I really like Vivienne. Also like Valerie. Both due a come back. They don't sound frumpy to me, I imagine strong, sophisticated women.

I think Vivienne goes nicely with Elise

Marty13 · 04/04/2022 11:35

If you use Vivien people might assume she's a boy, it's the boy spelling (in France it is anyway). Vivienne is the girl spelling. Love it btw.
Viviane is also nice.

SweedeyTodd · 04/04/2022 12:14

So many good points and aspects! Thank you!

I like “Vivien” too but as @Marty13 pointed out I think “Vivienne” is more suitable for a girl, personal preference. Also love the way it looks written down.

I am over the moon the majority like both names, so whilst it’s still relatively early days I think “Vivienne” will definitely stick for our second little girl Daffodil
