Do you prefer your first name or your middle name and if you could go back in time and switch them would you?

I never loved my first name it's not anything terrible that 'needed' changing so I never did ..... It's a name that many people would call a nn and I hated that fact it just doesn't sound complete or right when introducing myself in an official setting, my middle name is nice but it's only since I've been married that I've thought of maybe changing it

AHungryCaterpillar · 01/04/2022 11:18

No I don’t like my middle name at all. Definitely prefer my first

DoorLion · 01/04/2022 11:25

I like my middle name, and I like how it goes with my first name, but I definitely prefer the first name. My middle name is shared by about 50 per cent of girls born in the 70s (the other half had Jane).

demoness · 01/04/2022 12:00

I don't really like my middle name (it was the name of an family member and it's the kind of name you would rarely hear on anyone under the age of 50 - similar to something like Barbara or Irene). I much prefer my first name, which is much more typical for my age group.

thelittlestrhino · 01/04/2022 12:10

I don't have a middle name, so it's a good job that I am quite happy with my first name.

LittleBird4 · 01/04/2022 12:19

I love my first name so I wouldn't switch it for my middle name, which I like but don't love.

RuthW · 01/04/2022 12:21

I didn't have a middle name until I was 50. I prefer it to my first name.

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 01/04/2022 12:23

I absolutely hate my middle name to the point I ditched it entirely.

RoundGlass · 01/04/2022 12:40

I'd prefer them to be switched round.

comealongponds · 01/04/2022 12:49

Neither!

My first name is unusual and I’ve never liked it. My middle name (along with most women my age) is Louise which as well as being very boring I’ve also never liked!

I wouldn’t switch them though, I prefer having an unusual first name and it would be too much hassle to swap considering I don’t love my middle name either

emmathedilemma · 01/04/2022 13:38

I don’t have a middle name so that’s easy!!

Electrox · 01/04/2022 14:27

My middle name is one of the default middle names of its decade. I wouldn't swop to use it as a first name.

Grumpasaurusrex · 01/04/2022 15:15

My first name fine but dull.
Middle name awful.

merryhouse · 01/04/2022 16:12

Aged 3 I called my first doll Louise - nobody had any idea where I'd got it from. Obviously it was floating round the aether in 1972!

Anyway. I quite like both my names. The first was pretty popular for about twenty years - everywhere I go there's at least one other person with it - and I think hasn't been used since. Not even by the Duggars.

My middle name was probably about the same level of popularity at the time, but had more of a history. Less anglicised variants are more popular on the baby name boards now Grin

I remember about 12 preferring middle to first, and being decidedly pissed off when I discovered that it had originally been going to be my first name, but my parents decided that having two daughters with the same names as their friends' daughters would be a bit much...

Vampirethriller · 01/04/2022 16:15

I use my middle name for everything because my first name is ridiculous.

DramaAlpaca · 02/04/2022 01:59

I much prefer my middle name. In fact, it's the name I've gone by all my life. I've no idea why my parents never used my first name, but I'm glad they didn't as I hate it.

Marty13 · 02/04/2022 02:14

I love my middle name and would switch if I could, but I'm too used to my first name to switch now. I'd feel like I'm using a false identity somehow.

RefuseTheLies · 02/04/2022 02:17

Middle name is classic. First name is very dated (from 80s). I'm not a particularly 'classic' type so maybe i'd not suit a swap

ouch321 · 02/04/2022 03:36

Ambivalent

JenniferWooley · 02/04/2022 03:54

My middle name is my grandmothers maiden name so definitely wouldn't use that.

Mumofgirls2017 · 02/04/2022 07:18

Really lucky love both my names and wouldn’t want to switch the way round. Middle name is Rose which is very common now but more unusual for back then.

Enko · 02/04/2022 07:50

Not keen on either to be honest

Lilaclavenders · 02/04/2022 08:07

I don't have a middle name!

But I like my first name.

WeasilyPleased · 02/04/2022 23:50

I have learnt to love my first name and my second name is just odd so I'll keep them as they are thanks!
