Elysant · 31/03/2022 13:33

thoughts of these?
Juliet, Romilly, Cordelia, Freya, Giselle, Cecily, Anastasia, Madeleine, Beatrice, Bridget
boys Dimitri or Magnus
I feel Cordelia is my favorite, followed by Beatrice and Freya, my DH likes Giselle, Juliet, Romilly and Bridget.

I love Magnus!!! Dimitri is fine but Magnus is fab!

Of the girls I like Juliet and Romilly best. If you like Juliet and Cordelia how about other Shakespearean names: Miranda, Imogen, Rosalind...

Anastasia for me is too tied up with the sad story of the woman who claimed to be the youngest Romanov princess (Disney even made a film about it)

delshell · 31/03/2022 14:03

Beatrice is a lovely name and has a lovely meaning. Madeline is quite nice too but I strongly dislike Maddie which it might be difficult to avoid as a shortening.

The only name in your list I really dislike is Bridget.

Don't personally love any of the others, although there's absolutely nothing wrong with them.

KirstenBlest · 31/03/2022 14:10

Juliet - ok but will get Julie-ETTE
Romilly, - don't like, surname
Cordelia, - like, but Delia is nicer
Freya, - overused and boring
Giselle, - dated, and will be Jizz-elle
Cecily, - ok,
Anastasia,- too Disney/Shades of Grey
Madeleine, - nice
Beatrice, - ok
Bridget - ok
Dimitri - Dim?
Magnus - like

ButterRose · 31/03/2022 14:38

Love both your boys names I can't pick between them.
Girls names on your list I like Beatrice, Juliet, Freya and Madeline although I feel both Freya and Madeline are very popular

Pandypuff · 31/03/2022 14:43

Juliet - beautiful, joint favourite
Romilly - dislike, always makes me think of Rommel (ridiculous reason to dislike a name, I know)
Cordelia - dislike. I don't like the 'cord' sound. Makes me think of umbilical cords (also ridiculous)
Freya - dislike boring and overdone
Giselle - want to like but I think the 'jizz' sound might invite bullying. Also means 'hostage' according to my friend who is a Gisela
Cecily - lovely, joint favourite
Anastasia - want to like but would become Stacey. prefer Angelica
Madeleine - dislike, reminds me of McCann 😢
Beatrice - lovely, joint first place
Bridget - like, uncommon these days. Like Bridie nickname. Probably assume you were Catholic

Kanaloa · 31/03/2022 14:47

Juliet - I like this and think it sounds pretty and fresh
Bridget - think it has a harsh sound but it’s not awful
Romilly - not keen think it sounds clumsy
Cordelia - love this, so pretty
Freya - okay
Giselle - really dislike, not keen on any name for a girl in the UK that contains the sound ‘jizz.’
Cecily - I think Cecilia and Celia are both nicer
Anastasia - really like but there is the 50 shades connection if that would bother you
Madeleine - nice enough, you need tk like Maddie as she would probably be called this
Beatrice - really like, think it’s very nice and strong and unusual at the moment

Magnus - lovely name
Dimitri - I wouldn’t expect a Dimitri to be British for some reason - would think he was likely to be Russian.

MargaritasOnMe · 31/03/2022 14:50

Love your girls list. I'd go for Giselle or Juliet. Bridget sounds dated to me and I don't like Romilly particularly. Magnus is a fantastic name - was on my short list for dc3 so definitely my favourite here!

Mumofgirls2017 · 31/03/2022 15:21

Nice names my favourites are all the ones DH likes and love Magnus of the boys

DogsAndGin · 31/03/2022 17:39

Juliet - frumpy, Romilly - weird, Cordelia - 1950s, Freya - lovely, Giselle - milkmaid/a cow, Cecily - lovely, Anastasia - great if you’re Russian, Madeleine - classic, Beatrice - love it, Bridget - Jones but I love it

Dimitri - great if you’re Russian, or Magnus - ridiculously try-hard

RandomQuest · 31/03/2022 17:46

I like all your girls list but I especially love Juliet, Cordelia, Cecily, Madeleine and Beatrice (one is my DD’s name and another is DNiece)!

Magnus is really cool for a boy. Dimitri sounds Russian and could be shortened to dim, I wouldn’t use it.

scottishnames · 31/03/2022 18:22

Juliet - A bit prissy. There are nicer Shaespearean names (Rosalind, Miranda, Diana, Celia, Cassandra, Helena, Silvia, Valeria...) Also Julia, Juliana
Romilly - not keen on place names (which this is) as personal names
Cordelia - seeJuliet
Freya - fine but popular, if that matters
Giselle - not a pleasant ballet (though the Nureyev version if you can find it online is sensational)
Cecily - I like it
Anastasia - I like it, though with strongly Russian overtones, is this the right moment? (That is, unless you have Russian heritage of course.)
Madeleine - vastly prefer the English version Magdalen.
Beatrice - Ilike it
Bridget - I like this, too, also the variations: Birgit, Birgitta etc

Dimitri - Very strongly Russian. Fine if Russian heritage; if not, what sort of message are you sending right now? See 'Anastasia' above.
Magnus - perfectly normal north Scottish name. I like it.

Whatagrapefruit156 · 31/03/2022 18:26

I don’t like any except Bridget

17caterpillars1mouse · 31/03/2022 19:14

I love Bridget, it's such a strong, fiesty name

CadieSara · 31/03/2022 19:18

My favourites are Romilly and Freya and I like Magnus.

Luredbyapomegranate · 31/03/2022 21:18

Elysant

Cordelia is great.
I like Cecily too, and Bridget, in a weird way.

Juliet, Romilly and Anastasia are a bit fussy, Freya very overused, Beatrice a bit overused, Madeleine will end up Maddy, and Giselle is pretty awful.

Dimitri - fine if you’re Greek, odd if you’re not. I don’t share the love for Magus, quite like Rufus, Angus, Jonas, Linus though
