Neora or Noura?

mammoon567 · 29/03/2022 12:05

Just that really. I know they're very similar but these are the final two we're down to!

Neora being pronounced Nee-ora and Noura being pronounced 'Nora'
Middle name will be Elizabeth

Thank you!

Honestly go with Nora your child won't thank you for making her life difficult with unusual spellings especially if the second choice will be pronounced Nora. Plus isn't Neora an anti aging cream?

Player001 · 29/03/2022 12:09

Is there a sentimental reason why you have narrowed down to those two? If not go with Nora. Will make life so much easier for your child and will stop a lot of cursing headed your way for you 'just wanting to be different'.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/03/2022 12:11

I think Nora is a beautiful name. Go with that.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 29/03/2022 12:11

If you have to say how the names are pronounced, then I'd think again otherwise you're baby will find their name a pain when they're older. Go with Nora

ClaudiaWankleman · 29/03/2022 12:11

I've never heard of either of these names (familiar with Nora though). Are they Arabic names?

I prefer Noura although would naturally pronounce it differently to Nora. I would pronounce the 'ou' with the same sound as the 'u' in 'fur'.

MrsTimRiggins · 29/03/2022 12:11

Erm, honestly I don’t like either. I don’t like the way they look written down, and Neora just sounds wrong to my ear.
Nora is a lovely name, or Norah. I don’t think the ‘u’ is really needed?

mudgetastic · 29/03/2022 12:12

Noura won't be pronounced Nora

wineosaurus4 · 29/03/2022 12:13

I prefer Noura, but like PP I agree you should spell it Nora. When I first read Noura my head sounded out 'no-owra' and secondly 'noora', not Nora unfortunately Sad

thebabynanny · 29/03/2022 12:14

I would assume Noura is Nura.
If you want Nora (which is lovely) I would spell it like that.
Don't like Neora.

DropYourSword · 29/03/2022 12:15

If you want it pronounced Nora I'd go with Nora! Noura will forever be mispronounced. I would have assumed it was pronounced Now-ra or Nuw-ra

SoftSheen · 29/03/2022 12:19

Nora

underneaththeash · 29/03/2022 12:20

I was about to post that Neora sounds like a skincare range and it is!!

Definitely go with Nora.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 29/03/2022 12:21

Are these Arabic names? Of the two I'd probably go for Noura.

Is Noor a possibility? I think that's a very elegant name.

ButterRose · 29/03/2022 12:21

I would go with either Nora or Nura not Noura

SatinHeart · 29/03/2022 12:22

Noura is definitely nicer

VeryMuchFlaggingMinty · 29/03/2022 12:24

How about Niara...meaning 'mist' or 'with purpose' if you fancy something a bit different.

bobbythevet · 29/03/2022 12:24

Nora definitely

Hadtocomment · 29/03/2022 12:30

I love both those names OP. I think I prefer Noura - I listened to various pronounciation sites and most seem to have it closer to Nura than Nora. But then the French pronouciation sounded more like Nora. So maybe depends on your background the way you are wanting to pronounce it? FWIW I like the name Nora too. But I particularly love the pronounciation of Noura as Nura. I think that's a beautiful name.

demoness · 29/03/2022 13:51

I've never heard of Neora before and I'd assume Noura would be pronounced noo-ra rather than like Nora. I think spelling it Nora would save you a lot of hassle.

ISmellBurnings · 29/03/2022 13:52

Is Neora a name? Never heard of it, Google just comes up with a skincare brand.

Noura will get pronounced Nuura.

moonbedazzled · 29/03/2022 13:56

I'd think Noura would be pronounced Now-ra.

Sometimes a name looks lovely when written down - as these do - but are a real pain to handle in every day life.

JurassicPerks · 29/03/2022 14:02

Noura of your 2 choices (although I'd guess at now-ra)
Ideally Nora or Norah if you want that pronunciation.

chesirecat99 · 29/03/2022 14:40

Noura being pronounced 'Nora'

Noura isn't usually pronounced the same way as Nora.

Nora is the English spelling/pronunciation whereas Noura is usually used by Arabic speakers as a transliteration of the Arabic name, which has a longer vowel sound than the English name IYSWIM? It's more like "Noora" than Nora, the vowel sound is like the word "awe" rather than "or". Personally, I think Noura is more beautiful, a much softer sound, but you may find that people pronounce it like Nora anyway. If that's the way you want it to be pronounced anyway, I would just spell it Nora.

I prefer Noura (with the Arabic pronunciation) to Neora but at least Neora only has one way to pronounce it. It's also nicer than the English pronounciation of Nora.

Buttercup54321 · 29/03/2022 18:58

They look like neonatal or something to do with brain surgery to me.
I'd just go for Nora.

DogsAndGin · 29/03/2022 21:03

Lovely for a Muslim/Arabic girl.
