Spencer or Joseph?

Just that really, we have girls names but cannot for the life of us come up with a boy's name we like. These two are the only two and it's because we like the short versions too (Joey, Spence). What do you think?

Spencer is less common and much more memorable! Good classic name.

Joseph is very religious and Joe is soo commonplace.

I love the name Spencer it's just the right amount of proper, cool and fun not to uptight on a little boy but plenty strong enough for your little man when he's grown up and heading off to uni

jusdepamplemousse · 28/03/2022 11:36

Joseph. Spencer is…I don’t know. It reminds me of pincer!

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/03/2022 11:41

I much prefer Joseph, but I'm not a fan of Joey at all.

Spencer makes me think of that smarmy man from years ago on made in Chelsea. I know little Spencer's but I still can't get over the association.

Have you considered Dexter or Archer, similar kind of feel in my opinion.

DoucheCanoe · 28/03/2022 11:43

Spencer by a mile!

roastedsaltedpeanut · 28/03/2022 11:44

Spencer definitely. Met quite a few Spencer babies lately so it’s definitely gaining popularity.

delshell · 28/03/2022 11:46

Definitely Joseph, although not a huge fan of it. I like Joe.

Spencer is a surname in my book although I know it is used as a given name.

Adventing · 28/03/2022 13:10

Definitely Joseph, strong and classic. I associate Spencer with reality TV

Petsop · 28/03/2022 13:33

Frank Spencer! God no.

SpeedofaSloth · 28/03/2022 13:36

Joseph. Spencer will always be a surname to me, if I am honest.

MargaritasOnMe · 28/03/2022 13:37

I like both but I prefer Spencer.

AyeEee123 · 28/03/2022 13:38

Spencer is much nicer. Joseph is a bit boring.

YodaLivesOnMySofa · 28/03/2022 13:40

Love Spencer, had a good friend when I was younger called it but he was usually just Spen.
So cool.

SpaceJamtart · 28/03/2022 13:51

Joseph,
Just because Spencer is always the painter from balamory to me

Newuser82 · 28/03/2022 15:30

Joseph would be my choice

Pandypuff · 28/03/2022 16:06

I love Joseph! The Spencer I know is constantly called Spenny by everyone and it's really put me off

Nosetickle · 28/03/2022 16:07

Joseph, although Spencer is ok.

Twizbe · 28/03/2022 16:20

Joseph.

Spencer feels very 80s/90s to me. Partly because of Spencer from Big Brother and Spencer from The Hills.

Theresamagicalplace · 28/03/2022 16:29

Thanks for the opinions! Seems quite even at the minute which hasn't helped 😂. The name Asher someone suggested was one we considered but it didn't work with the surname unfortunately and the other name I loved was jack but with our other son's name it just made them sound like nursery rhyme characters. Any other suggestions very welcome!

Archer not Asher!

Joseph. Classic, strong but gentle. The one in our family gets called Guiseppe as a nn!

DramaAlpaca · 28/03/2022 23:53

Joseph is nice.

I thoroughly dislike Spencer.

JaneJeffer · 28/03/2022 23:55

Joseph for sure

MaidEdithofAragon · 28/03/2022 23:56

Joseph by far. Classic and beautiful. Spencer will date.

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/03/2022 03:04

Joseph, a classic, you can’t go wrong

Spencer makes me think of side boy estate agents
