Lucia or Sofia

Already have a little boy called Noah.
Decided on Hugo Jacob for a boy.
Absolutely love Spanish names. We have a holiday home in Spain, intention is to move over there at some point.

Struggling with girls names though. What do you think of:
Sofia
Lucia (pronounced Loo-See-Ah the Spanish way)

Any other suggestions of Spanish girls names they would work in UK and Spain?

Thanks.

Lucia would be Luthia in much of Spain and Luchia in Italy.
She'll spend a lifetime telling people which is the way she pronounces it.

Sofia, on that basis alone, would get my vote.

@PAFMO That really surprises me because I've googled Spanish pronunciation of Lucia and it always comes back with Loo-See-Ah and it's an audio so I can hear it too.

In some southern Spanish regions, and south America "c" followed by "I" is pronounced as /s/ while in other areas it's /th/

I've met two Lucia's over the years, one pronounced loo-chee-a and one pronounced loo-sha, I think it's a lovely name but the miss pronounciation that she'll get all her life would drive me mad.

Lucia is nice, if pronounced the way you like.
Sofia/Sophia is so boring to me now as it’s so overused in my area.
Suggestions are Inés, Isabel, Gabriela, Rafaela, Ramona, Rosa?

@DotDotDotDotDot Ines is beautiful. Really like Isabel but lots of spelling variations which puts me off and dislike Issy/Izzy.

Is Lydia Spanish?

I prefer Esmeralda (Esme) to the others although none of them are names I would choose.

Definitely avoid names that people will have to be told how to pronounce.

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/03/2022 15:11

Lucia is lovely, you’ll need to clarify pronunciation a bit though. The world does not need another Sofia.

Ines, Rosario, Paloma, Fernanda are all great. Quite like Yolanda.

I think Esmeralda is a bit much, but mostly she’ll be one of many Esmes which would put me off

WhoppingBigBackside · 26/03/2022 15:21

Sofia/Sophia has been too popular for too long.

Lucia is Spain is usually Looth-ee-a, Add the Loosha, Lootch-ee-a, Lucy-a pronunciations and sh'll be correcting people an awful lot

I think I need to get my eyes tested, I was scrolling and thought title said "Lurch or Sofia" 😂😂
