Could I use this name?

We already have a Daughter called Mabel would we be able to use Esmè for another girl? Don’t know if it sounds ridiculous as both names have ‘May’ in them?

I don't think I would've noticed until you pointed it out.
So I think it's fine Smile

Violetmo0n · 21/03/2022 19:40

I wouldn't have noticed either

AHungryCaterpillar · 21/03/2022 19:41

I wouldn’t have noticed either

toastofthetown · 21/03/2022 19:50

Not sure it would be huge problem, though if you're not sure maybe try calling the names through your house to see if you can hear the difference. If it bothers you then it bothers you though and that's not necessarily wrong. If you plan on using an accent for Esme, then Esmé is the correct version.

scottishnames · 21/03/2022 20:03

Probably this is just a typing error, but the accent on the final 'e' of Esme is pointing the wrong way. It should be an acute accent - sloping upwards from left to right.

Zillamop · 21/03/2022 20:24

I think they go nicely together Smile

FindingMeno · 21/03/2022 20:25

No, a couple of lovely names!

MrsEricBana · 21/03/2022 20:27

Definitely ok

stickygotstuck · 21/03/2022 20:40

There is no 'may' sound in Esme.
But it wouldn't matter if there was anyway!

poodlepoop · 21/03/2022 20:46

It's Esmé

I think it's ok

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/03/2022 20:54

Esme is usually Ez-mee which works with Mabel

If you wanted the Ez-May pronunciation it’s a little close but ok I guess.

Joolsin · 21/03/2022 20:55

Pronounce it Ez-mee and it won't be a problem.

Lilaclavenders · 21/03/2022 21:52

It's spelled Esmé

And there is no 'ay' sound. It's Es-meh.

Fivebeanchilli · 21/03/2022 22:01

I think it's fine. To me it's not quite the same sound. Shorter in Esmé.

DramaAlpaca · 21/03/2022 22:57

It's fine. Just make sure you spell Esmé correctly. You could leave off the accent altogether. I think the two names go nicely together.

AnnaSW1 · 21/03/2022 23:00

I also wouldn't have noticed

GreenClock · 21/03/2022 23:05

I wouldn’t have noticed because I pronounce it Ez-me. But the pronunciation you’ve chosen is no problem with Mabel imo. Lovely names.

Fl0w3ry · 22/03/2022 10:44

I didn’t notice either. The names go nicely together.

seasunshine22 · 22/03/2022 15:33

Thanks everyone. I prefer the Es-May over es-me pronunciation.

Both lovely names and they "go"

JodieFoster1 · 22/03/2022 16:03

Fine with me, don’t find the names similar. I like both names btw and know a young adult called Esme (pron Es May).

Adventing · 22/03/2022 16:10

I wouldn't have noticed either
