Rose or Violet

Further to my last post. I'm very much inspired by all things Titanic..... Both film and history.

Rose Dawson was a massive figure in the film and someone that everyone links to Titanic but wasn't actually real.
Violet Jessop was a nurse who was on Titanic and a very inspirational figure (read her memoirs).

Which would you chose if you were me? And why?
Middle name is likely to be Matilda. I chose the name when I had my older son, however lots of people have used since and I'm not keen on the shortening's of it but think I'd regret not using in some form.

I love both of these names as first names so I’m probably not much help. Matilda sounds great in the middle. If I had to choose though maybe Violet. Rosie is very popular at the moment, 9th in England &Wales. Lots of other names get shortened to Rose aswell, Rosalie/Rosemary/Primrose etc, that’s in case popularity bothers you. Good luck.

toastofthetown · 21/03/2022 14:05

As a first name Rose, as a middle name Violet. Rose and it's variants have been popular for longer than Violet. Violet will probably end up dated where Rose is less likely to.

GlitteryGreen · 21/03/2022 14:10

Both really pretty but personally I'd go for Rose as it's classic.

My DP likes Violet but I am not keen on the inevitable shortening to Vi (by me!) - just proper old lady vibes. It is a pretty name though.

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 21/03/2022 14:56

I love both, but would probably choose Rose myself.

itsgettingweird · 21/03/2022 15:20

I love all 3 names.

Reading your OP I though Violet Rose or Rose Violet are lovely.

But I'm also a massive fan of the name Matilda.

I like Matilda Rose or Matilda Violet so nice too.

But I prefer Matilda as a Christian name rather than a middle name personally.

So you have my vote for whatever combination you choose.

Or completely go out there and have

Matilda Violet Rose. That's a beautiful name

KylieCharlene · 21/03/2022 15:22

Violet Rose Matilda is lovely.

irishfarmer · 21/03/2022 17:00

Both lovely names. It's Rose for me.

doglikescheeseontoast · 21/03/2022 17:25

Matilda Rose is so lovely.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/03/2022 21:24

Violet - because Violet Jessop was fabulous, Rose is just too popular and Violet goes a bit better with Matilda

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/03/2022 21:25

.. I suppose you could call her Olympia, mind you

EdgeOfACoin · 21/03/2022 21:34

I think Violet Matilda works well. I like your reason for choosing the name Violet.

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 21/03/2022 22:03

Violet. Love it.

urbanbuddha · 21/03/2022 22:19

Rose.

DramaAlpaca · 21/03/2022 22:54

Rose

Fl0w3ry · 22/03/2022 10:48

I prefer the name Rose, but also like Violet a lot. With the meanings that you have written behind the choices though I would pick Violet as you are associating it with someone inspirational. That would be a nicer story to tell your child about her choice of name when she is older.

beetree1 · 22/03/2022 11:50

I like both but would pick Violet. Violet Rose is lovely though!

TatianaBis · 22/03/2022 13:18

Rose is too everywhere, prefer Violet anyway.

Violet Matilda is ace.

delshell · 24/03/2022 15:52

I prefer Rose personally, but Violet is nice too.
