Thoughts on Winona?

My husband seems to think that at some point I agreed that if we had a girl we could call her Winona... (I was pretty sure we'd have another boy so I may well have!) I do think it's quite a pretty name but it's a bit too attached to Winona Ryder for me. Our other option is probably Lydia but I'm not sure I love that either. What do people think?

Immediate association with Winona Ryder. I like her as an actor so don't think that's a bad thing. I prefer Winona to Lydia, though Lydia is OK.

If you're thinking in terms of nicknames, I'm not keen on Win or Winnie - but I suppose you could have Nona or Nonnie.

I really like it, I’ve only ever heard it for Winona Ryder but I’m not really sure why it’s not used more, it’s lovely.

Only heard for the actress but it is beautiful!!

Not keen. Sorry. Never heard of one either than Ryder and she’s certainly not the greatest of role models (heavy drug use, arrested for shoplifting and vandalism, etc.).

It's too linked with Winona Ryder.

Who is called that after the town she was born in. It strikes me as an odd choice, if you have no links to there.

I wouldn't. Just too associated with Winona Ryder, who I believe was named after a small town called Winona in Wisconsin, or somewhere.

There's also Wynonna Judd.

Ramona, Lowenna, Louisa, Luella, Claudia, Cassia, Sabrina, Rosanna, Adela, Philippa, Francesca, Fernanda, Saskia, Sanchia, Estella, Catriona might all be alternatives

Same here. I don’t even really mind the association with the actress; I just don’t really like the way it sounds.

Yeah I only think of Ryder too. Lydia is nice, but what about Ramona, or Lyra?

Instantly think Ryder. I know of a girl called Charlize and I just picture Charlize Theron every time I hear her name!

Sorry, but I hate the name Lydia. It makes me think of disease.

I like Winona. Nobody owns a name.

Ryder springs to mind but i wouldn't worry about that as her peers wouldn't know of/ remember her being in the news.
