I was thinking how strange it is that we just know whether we like a name or dislike a name and how there is often not much rhyme or reason to it.

Are there any names you love where there is a really similar name you dislike?

For example I like the name Lara but I dislike the name Laura, and I like Eve and Ivy but dislike Evie.

Most of my illogical ones are about spelling. I mean I know I like Julia more than Julie because I prefer -a endings.

And I like the pronunciation ma-rye-ah but the spelling Maria.

I think Olive is a much prettier name than Olivia. I really like Joseph and Josephine, like Josie as a nickname for a girl and Joe as a nickname for s boy but really dislike Jo for a girl

CremeEggThief · 20/03/2022 13:51

Not quite your question, but generally I prefer the version of the name that ends in a and I don't really understand why it's not universal!
For example:
Eva is better than Eve
Christina is better than Christine
Louisa is better than Louise
Helena is better than Helen
Ella is better than Ellie
Julia is better than Julie
Etc. Etc.
