Middle name for Hannah

DD is due any day now and she is going to be called Hannah. This is a definite so am not looking for other first name options thank you Smile

However, I am doubting our middle name choice. It took us ages to find one we both like and we eventually picked Lucy but I’m increasingly unconvinced. I love the name and the meaning but I don’t really think it “goes” with Hannah, especially as she is having both of our two syllable surnames and it feels weirdly rhythmical - and not in a good way.

So I think we need either a 1 syllable or 3 syllable middle name, without too many “a” sounds.

My list so far (all of which my partner has vetoed) are:

Hannah Grace
Hannah Rose
Hannah Beth

Hannah Emily
Hannah Isobel
Hannah Penelope

Any other ideas? His main issue with the 1 syllable names is that they are often used as middle names and the 3 syllable ones make her name too long Hmm

Or maybe I’m overthinking this and Hannah Lucy is fine.

I like Hannah Lucy. I think Hannah Emily is nice too.
I know a Hannah Katherine Elizabeth and a Hannah Ruth.
I really dislike 1 syllable middle names as they feel like fillers to me so I would choose longer:
Hannah Beatrice
Hannah Florence
Hannah Sophie
Hannah Amelie
Hannah Elizabeth
Hannah Charlotte
Hannah Louise
Hannah Rosalie

I like Hannah Lucy

Any family names or people close to you that you want to honour?

Otherwise maybe…

Hannah Josephine
Hannah Catherine
Hannah Elizabeth
Hannah Jennifer
Hannah Florence

To be honest, I don't think it matters and Lucy is fine. People don't really use their middle names unless they hate their first name and it's sometimes used a s away to remember someone or honour someone or even as a nod to your religion.

I like Hannah Sophia or maybe Hannah Lucille runs more nicely than Lucy? Hannah Lillian, Hannah Eleanor, Hannah Meredith?

LucyLoopyLu · 17/03/2022 14:57

I like Hannah Louise as suggested by PP.
What letter does your surname start with and how many syllables?
Because it's much more common to say the whole full name or just first and last, I think you should focus more on how it sounds with your surname

Hannah Claire

My baby, if she's girl, is going to have a 3-syllable first name, two 3-syllable middle names, plus a 3-syllable surname, if that makes you feel any better haha Grin
Both their grandmas' names are 3 syllables and we wanted to use them, and the only female name we agreed on was also 3 syllables. It's along the lines of Marina Delilah Natalia Shevchenko..... I feel sorry for them when they're gonna have to learn to write it.

Claire is lovely. Hannah is very classic and if you are having two surnames I'd go simple with the middle name, but i think you can afford to be a bit more adventurous. Hannah Rae, Hannah Wren or something along those lines.

SunshineSasha · 17/03/2022 16:02

Thanks all. Interesting to see that lots of you think Hannah Lucy is fine. Maybe this is just last minute doubts creeping in!

@LucyLoopyLu my surname starts with S and his with W, both have two syllables and we plan to use both. We’re open to either order so we should be able to avoid initials that spell words.

This does make me feel better thanks. I think I may be having an irrational moment. Not that I plan to tell my partner that Grin

If the surnames are something like Parker and Cooper
Hannah Parker Carter will sound rhymey

She doesn't need a middle name, but one with a different no of syllables would probably be best

I'd avoid the Grace/Rose/May type filler middle names, and instead use a name that has meaning to you like your grandmother's name or something

Hannah Charlotte is nice

Hannah Lucy is lovely, nice and soft. Off the top of my head I think Hannah Rose has a nice flow to it.

PatterPaws · 17/03/2022 17:15

Before I opened your thread, from the title I thought 'Hannah Grace would be gorgeous.

Actually, I like all of your choices apart from Beth, which doesn't sound like a full name to me.

Hannah Lucy is nice.

To be honest, Rose/Grace are just filler names massively overused. Every girl has them.

TheGratefulBread · 17/03/2022 18:33

Hannah means grace in Hebrew. Therefore the name Hannah Grace is basically naming a child Grace Grace!

jynnerso · 17/03/2022 19:08

I think Rose is lovely with Hannah.
My name is Hannah. My middle name is Jane, which is a family name but my mum used to call me Hannah Jane as a term of endearment and I always really liked them together.
But any combination you choose will be lovely, because you chose it and took the time over it and it will mean something to you.

I dislike Lucy for personal reasons so ignore my views on that!
I know a gorgeous Hannah Meredith and I think that sounds beautiful.
