Clementine has swiftly moved up my and she's name list after a lot of agonizing 😂. Thoughts? Is it a bit out there? TIA!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FayCarew · 17/03/2022 14:32

I wouldn't say it was weird. I can think of children and young adults with names that I think 'What were the parents thinking?'

Pemba · 17/03/2022 14:58

Nobody said the NAME was weird. It was the pp's reaction of apparently 'cringing' at it that's weird. Go back and read properly please.

FayCarew · 17/03/2022 15:08

I didn't say that anyone said the name was weird @Pemba. I did read it properly actually. You are the one calling the pp weird. The pp is entitled to an opinion.

I don't find it weird that a pp cringes at the name Clementine.

I find it weird that you are criticising other posters for having an opinion

Pemba · 17/03/2022 15:28

A 'cringe' at a name is strange and inappropriate.

FayCarew · 17/03/2022 15:57

@Pemba, who nominated you the appropriate behaviour monitor?

Babadook76 · 17/03/2022 16:01

@Pemba

Why would a normal name make anyone 'cringe'. How weird
It was me who said it was cringey, because I think it is. And I disagree that it’s a normal name. It’s awkward and embarrassing. Which is the definition of cringey
Pemba · 17/03/2022 16:02

Goodness me, you are WEIRDLY hostile, aren't you?

FayCarew · 17/03/2022 16:03

Yawn

Pemba · 17/03/2022 16:03

That's to Fay

Tonya345 · 17/03/2022 16:04

I like it, and also like Clemmie for short.

RewildingAmbridge · 17/03/2022 16:06

I like it and it was on my shortlist along with Tabitha, if DS had been a girl. As it stands we're thinking of getting a kitten soon and I'm pushing for it to be her name. My friend has a cat with the same name as my son so I don't mean this as an insult!

hazandduck · 17/03/2022 16:07

I love Clementine, in my top 3 names! It was so nearly my second DD’s name on her birth certificate, with the Nn Cleo. Then at the last minute whilst registering her we just made it Cleo. I still sometimes wish we had called her Clementine officially but then I wasn’t a huge fan of “Clem” as a nickname after my mum said “phlegmy Clemmy!” I wish I hadn’t asked her opinion as I still think it is such a beautiful name.

hazandduck · 17/03/2022 16:09

Ps I love the nickname ‘Tiny’ for Clementine.

SundayTeatime · 17/03/2022 16:15

@hazandduck

Ps I love the nickname ‘Tiny’ for Clementine.
How do you get that from Clementine?
SoyaChai · 17/03/2022 16:18

I do like it, but only as a whole name.

I knew someone who went by the nicknames Clem or Clemmie, which don't sound nice to me. I think it reminds me to much of the word phlegm.

FayCarew · 17/03/2022 16:19

Clementine -> Clementiny-> Tiny

I'm imagine a tall, muscular athletic type 18-yr old called Tiny

SoyaChai · 17/03/2022 16:20

How do you get that from Clementine?

The final syllable. I guess it depends if you say it with a -teen or a -tine. I use -tine.

PinkGinBigGrin · 17/03/2022 16:27

Clemmie reminds me of phlegmmy (sorry) it sounds like something stuck in your throat.

SundayTeatime · 17/03/2022 16:46

I only know Clementine as -teen.

Pemba · 17/03/2022 16:48

You must have heard the song though, maybe?

hazandduck · 17/03/2022 17:07

Ha, yes maybe it could be ironic in that case!
hazandduck · 17/03/2022 17:10

@SundayTeatime

I only know Clementine as -teen.
It can be “Tyne” or “teen.” I like both but would have used Clemen-tyne for my DD.
SundayTeatime · 17/03/2022 17:11

@Pemba

You must have heard the song though, maybe?
Oh, yes, but I thought that was just an Australian pronunciation but everyone would use -teen in the UK.
Lilaclavenders · 17/03/2022 17:14

Many will mispronounce it as Clemen-tyne.

Bazinga007 · 17/03/2022 17:24

Not for me, they would soon be given nicknames like phlem or phlementine.
