Clementine has swiftly moved up my and she's name list after a lot of agonizing 😂. Thoughts? Is it a bit out there? TIA!

Seems to be quite marmite! I would probably call her Mimi rather than Clemmie.

I love it but it’s a family name for us

toastofthetown · 17/03/2022 08:05

Clementine isn’t out there at all; it’s a completely standard name. As others have staid is also rising massively in popularity at the moment. Even though you are not planning on using Clem/Clemmy, I’d still make sure you like them as your daughter’s nicknames are her decision, not yours, and she may well choose them for herself.

Cormoran · 17/03/2022 08:06

Clémentine, Amandine, .... what is not to love.

AutumnOcean · 17/03/2022 08:23

I love it but husband vetoed it.

beetree1 · 17/03/2022 10:10

I like Clementine I think its a pretty name but really dislike Clem and Clemmie.

I like your idea of mimi though instead much better

CakeAmbushAlert · 17/03/2022 10:14

Beautiful name.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 17/03/2022 10:24

Like it but really don’t like Clem, Clemmie or Mimi!

BennyTheWonderDog · 17/03/2022 10:29

I love it but it would be a touch too popular for me. Definitely not too out there!

MalagaNights · 17/03/2022 11:10

I like it but don't like any of the shortenings so wouldn't use it.

Pemba · 17/03/2022 11:15

Very pretty, but you haven't said if you want it pronounced 'Clementeen', like the fruit and Churchill's wife, or 'Clementyne' to rhyme with wine, like in the song. Both are nice, but you'll have to decide!

Shannith · 17/03/2022 11:21

I've got one! I didn't plan it - don't think it was even on the list but I'd been given a lot of morphine!

I love it - she does get a bit of Tyne rather than teen and she's known as Clemmie.

There is a tenuous family connection in that churchhill lived in the house/village where DH grew up but I didn't know that at the time.

I had an amusing moment when I lived in London - a woman a few doors down had a DD a year older - I bumped into her when I was emerging for one of my first forays out with DD. We'd never spoken, I asked her DDs name and she proudly said Clementine. When I said oh mine too, she GLARED at me.

I've only met one other and their parent did not hate be for stealing their "unique" name.

Shannith · 17/03/2022 11:23

@VampireMoney

It was on the list for DD2 as I thought it fit well with DD1's name (Tabitha), but in the end we went with exh choice.
that's funny, DD was going to be Tabitha. Or Charlotte. She claims she much prefers Clemmie.

I can’t get past the fruit thing personally. But if that doesn’t bother you then objectively it’s a quite nice sounding name.
I’m also not a fan of pre-planned cutesy nicknames (mimi) either. I don’t understand giving a name but deciding from the beginning that you’re going to call them something else.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 17/03/2022 11:28

I love it.

Anyfeckinusername · 17/03/2022 11:30

I just watched Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (Kate winslett and Jim Carey) and her name Clementine is a part of the story… I love it!

Sounds clunky and twee.

Clemmie reminds me of clammy

Fully aware I'm in a minority though.

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/03/2022 12:29

Not out there, but a bit faddy. I think it will date. I want to like it, and I like Clemmie, but the teen / tine pronunciation issues put me off

SundayTeatime · 17/03/2022 12:35

How are you going to pronounce it? It’s OK, a bit dated in style. I don’t like Clemmie, though.

FayCarew · 17/03/2022 12:59

I don't like it. The Clem bit makes me think of clumsy, and it's too long

Luluuuuuuuuuu85 · 17/03/2022 13:39

We would pronounce it Teen rather than Tyne I think! I like a nickname 😂 though oddly my oldest is always called by her first name even though it could very easily be shortened, so you never know!

Babadook76 · 17/03/2022 13:42

Makes me cringe a bit, sorry op. Plus she’ll end up getting called all sorts of daft nicknames

Pemba · 17/03/2022 14:29

Why would a normal name make anyone 'cringe'. How weird
