I'm not really a fan of biblical names, you can probably tell! I think Nathaniel is quite popular. Emmanuelle makes me think of porn films from the 70s.

Mumofgirls2017 · 13/03/2022 08:07

Boys:
Amos- quite like
Elias- like
Nathaniel- ok, but bad associations with Nathan and Nate for me
Zephan- not heard of but quite like, although might get mistaken for Stefan
Josiah- prefer Joseph, but that’s partly because it would be a bit too biblical for me (I know Joseph is too but more mainstream)

Girls:
Emmanuelle/Emmanuela- too similar to boys name for me
Raphaelle/Raphaela- see above and reminds me of the chocolate
Theodora- love
Dorothea- like too
Miriam- find it a bit frumpy

Boys:
Amos - a farmer or a Mormon
Elias - see above
Nathaniel - fairly normal average bloke
Zephan - hippy
Josiah - another farmer/Mormon

Girls:
Emmanuelle/Emmanuela - French the parents really wanted a boy
Raphaelle/Raphaela - see above but Italian this time
Theodora - private school, does ballet
Dorothea - see above
Miriam - early 50s works in a new age shop selling crystals

LoganberryJam · 13/03/2022 08:14

Girls - Miriam is my favourite by miles, Raphaela least favourite.

Boys - they are all quite nice except not keen on Zephan.

Jellycatrabbit · 13/03/2022 08:34

Emmanuelle is my favourite name ever but there is also a well known dodgy 70s film of the same name. Yes it's old but still the first hit on Google.

Miriam is lovely. I think Madeleine has a similar vibe.

Your other girls names are fussier than I like and I wonder if Theodora would be awkward with so many male Theos around.

Boys names I prefer more trad so won't comment.

mdh2020 · 13/03/2022 08:57

Miriam and Nathaniel. Wasn’t there a very sexy movie called Emmanuelle?

Comedycook · 13/03/2022 08:59

Totally agree with this analysis
AnnieandMiri · 13/03/2022 09:08

Zephan is a shortened form of Zephaniah which I love but worry it might be too long. Maybe I'll put Zephaniah back on my list and remove Zephan!

Amos- 5, I think of an old man, kind of Harry Potter vibe.
Elias-8
Nathanial- 6 - nathan/ Nathanial have a 90s feel to me
Zephan- 8 - I like this, think it sounds fresh
Josiah-6, would think religious family

Emmanuelle - 7, I think of Diana’s wedding dress
Raphaela- 7 -I think of someone of Mediterranean ethnicity.
Theodora- 7, lots of nice nicknames but don’t love the name itself, sounds a bit ‘geeky’ maybe from Alvin and chipmunks
Dorothea - 6
Miriam- 6
Susannah-8, nice name, due a comeback

FayCarew · 14/03/2022 12:45

Boys:
Amos - ok - 2
Elias - too long - 3
Nathaniel - a bit too long - 1
Zephan - did you mean Zephaniah? - 5
Josiah - not keen - 4

Girls:
Emmanuelle/Emmanuela - Manuela is better - too long
Raphaelle/Raphaela - too long and too frilly
Theodora - too long and too many boy Theos.
Dorothea - love Dorothy but not Dorothea
Miriam - 1

  1. Dorothy
  2. Miriam
  3. none of the others
FayCarew · 14/03/2022 12:47

Zephaniah is too long but I like it. Zephan just seems made up

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/03/2022 21:52

Like:
Elias - great, slightly intellectual cousin of Sherlock Holmes
Josiah - bright but also sporty
Nathaniel - Nat - life and soul of the common room

Amos - Amish farmer. Or Somerset farmer It’s ok

Zephan - makes me think of zeppelins. No

Like -
Susannah - elegant, clever, sensible
Dorothea - mischievous, funny smart / Dora and Dorey are nice nns
Theodora - arty and a bit complex. But too many Theos and Theas around so I wouldn’t
Ok
Emmanuelle/Emmanuela - slightly trouble. Bit fussy
Raphaelle/Raphaela - same

Don’t like
Miriam - it’s a bit dreary - I love Maryam or Marianne though

DramaAlpaca · 14/03/2022 21:58

I only like Nathaniel from the boys' names. I'd assume from those that the parents who chose them were religious but only because most of them are from the Old Testament.

Of the girls' names, I like Susannah but the rest aren't to my taste at all.

On the whole I tend not to have associations with names as every person who shares a first name with another is a totally different individual.

Amos 1
Elias 0
Nathaniel 0
Zephan 0
Josiah 0

Girls:
Emmanuelle/Emmanuela 0
Raphaelle/Raphaela 9
Theodora 0
Dorothea 0
Miriam 1

Only liked one of each. Always loved Amos and really like Miriam, my DD (9) has a friend Miriam. I think it may also get more popular as one of the characters from the new Disney movie Turning Red is called Miriam.

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/03/2022 15:42

Amos - 7 - I like it. Amos would be a quiet but friendly little boy, slightly unsure of himself but with a kind heart and good relationship with his parents. As a teenager he'd be quite musical, loyal friend, introverted interests. As an adult a really good sense of humour, devoted son and husband, works in an office, has a dog.

Elias - Amos's more outgoing younger brother, a bit more mischievous but also has a kind heart and strong sense of family. Sportier than his brother, growing into a thriller seeker. Has a job such as firefighter or paramedic. 7

Nathaniel 9 - love it - Nathaniel is popular in life, but still has more introverted interests. Loves being outdoors, enjoys travelling and travel writing, works with kids in a forest school type setting. Again has dogs that he loves.

Zephan - 1 - not a fan

Josiah - 6 - Josiah is similar in temperament to Amos, but shyer as an adult. Good with numbers, works in finance. A homebody.

Emmanuelle/Emmanuela - 5 - prefer Emmanuelle - bit of a firecracker, stubborn and likes getting her own way. Wild child as a teen, needs alot of reigning in from making silly decisions that puts her and others at risk. Works at a hospital

Raphaelle/Raphaela - 3 and 8 - love Raphaela - shy little girl who likes losing herself in books and drawing, very creative and artistic as a teen. Can sing and play guitar but too shy to do so Infront of anybody. Becomes a teacher but does charity work aswell.

Theodora - 5 - sassy child, falls easily in and out of friendships, can be fickle. Risk taker as a teen, not a great judge of character as an adult. Works in hospitality.

Dorothea - 9 - quiet, studious girl who dreams of becoming a doctor. Hardworking but struggles with friendships. Looks after her younger siblings whilst her parents work. Becomes a Dr as an adult

Miriam - 2 - thinks the world revolves around her, can be domineering in relationships. Very my way or the highway. Can lack empathy at times and very money orientated.
