Just anything you can think of. Associations, popularity, too boring, too out there, problems that could occur etc. Also tell me which spelling you prefer.

This is my current list:

Sabina
Evelyn
Lily
Eleanor or Elinor
Kiera or Ciara (KEE-ra)
Meadhbh (pronounced like Maeve) or Maeve
Kyra (KY-ra)
Aideen or Éadaoin (both AY-deen)
Kaia (KAH-ya)
Lyra
Aisling (ASH-leen)

Definitely use the Maeve spelling, rather than the alternative, if you choose that name. It is a lovely name. I also like Eleanor, Sabina and Evelyn.

MissCarolina · 12/03/2022 17:24

I love Lily, Kyra and Kiera. Although your whole list are lovely names. I would say use the Maeve spelling too.

FlamingoDust · 12/03/2022 19:49

Lovely list! I have only ever met 1 Sabina and she was often mistaken for Sabrina

Thewindwhispers · 12/03/2022 20:35

They’re all lovely except Aisling which my eyes keep turning into “ailing” ie ill.

Thewindwhispers · 12/03/2022 20:36

Pa definitely the Maeve spelling not the other one!!

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 12/03/2022 20:39

Sabina - nice, although I prefer Sabine
Evelyn - alright
Lily - bit boring
Eleanor or Elinor - lovely and classic
Kiera or Ciara (KEE-ra) - OK, prefer Kiera
Meadhbh (pronounced like Maeve) or Maeve - definitely Maeve unless you're Irish
Kyra (KY-ra) - not heard this before, sounds made up to me sorry
Aideen or Éadaoin (both AY-deen) - don't like this at all sorry, looks like aiden
Kaia (KAH-ya) - OK
Lyra - ok, his dark materials?
Aisling (ASH-leen) - not keen sorry

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/03/2022 21:01

Sabina - ok, much prefer Sabrina
Evelyn - lovely but way overused
Lily - drippy
Eleanor or Elinor - lovely but way overused
Kiera or Ciara (KEE-ra) - nice, Ciara (it’s more like KEER-Rah - the r is quite drawn out)
Meadhbh (pronounced like Maeve) or Maeve - ok, Maeve
Kyra (KY-ra) - no, it’s just a phonetic of Ciara - no one will say it like this
Aideen or Éadaoin (both AY-deen) - yes but with the spelling someone suggested previously
Kaia (KAH-ya) - no, i think it and Darcy will be the Sharon and Tracy of the 2Os
Lyra - nice but too many similar names about - leah, Lola, lyra, Lena, laila, Lilah etc
Aisling (ASH-leen) -I like it - the couple I know say it Ash-linn which I think is nicer

Footnote · 12/03/2022 21:05

Maeve seems so dated compared with Meadhbh. Maeve is a aunt type name.
Aisling is my favourite.

Aedín Is the better spelling of Eadaoin / Aideen. Eadaoin would just be a nightmare, and Aideen is depressed and downtrodden like Maureen
Snowbell99 · 12/03/2022 21:38

Aedín is hardly used in Ireland so I am leaning more towards Éadaoin which always had regular usage even though it was never common.

I am also unsure of Aedín's etymology so I prefer to use Éadaoin because you sort of know what you get.

I don't want to use a trendy spelling and I can't find older sources for Aedín even though it is pretty.

Do you pronounce them differently?

Sabina- teenage witch
Evelyn- nice but not keen on inevitable shortening Evie, so many about
Lily- so many
Eleanor or Elinor- nice but not keen on Ellie
Kiera or Ciara (KEE-ra)- prefer Clara.
Meadhbh (pronounced like Maeve) or Maeve- Maeve is ok, other spelling will be difficult outside Ireland
Kyra (KY-ra)- reminds me of a brand of contraceptive pill somehow
Aideen or Éadaoin (both AY-deen)- not keen
Kaia (KAH-ya)- quite like this one
Lyra- like a lot
Aisling (ASH-leen)- sounds dated to me

Rosieposie101 · 13/03/2022 03:18

Maeve is my favorite by far
