Hugo and… ?

Hi All,

I posted recently about possibly using Kit as a nickname for Charles but got some pretty quick feedback that made us rethink, so we’ve ruled that out as an option.

Now we’re left with these two options for sibling names for our ds Hugo:

Hugo and Kit (Christopher)
Hugo and George

Which do you prefer please!

Can you not just name him Kit?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 11/03/2022 21:15

George

user772263 · 11/03/2022 21:15

We’d prefer to have a longer name on the birth certificate but that’s just our personal preference!

Kit. George is a bit dull and lumpy.

Christopher/Kit

Christopher - Kit

There’s too many g’s going on with Hugo and George

Snowbell99 · 11/03/2022 21:20

Hugo and George.

I like Christopher but only in its full form.

Kit is one of those nicknames for Christopher that made sense 100 years ago when so many people had similar names due to hardly any variety and you needed to call a Mary "Mamie" to tell her apart from all the other ones. It's also how we ended up with Molly and Polly. But nowadays it seems far fetched and not logical to me. Sorry!

Oh that’s really good feedback! I hadn’t thought about there being too many ‘g’s’ before!

Christopher/Kit 👍

toastofthetown · 11/03/2022 21:24

George is so dull and bland you might as well call him Boy. I’d consider if you like the other nicknames for Christopher as you son might not want to stick with Kit.

Purpleavocado · 11/03/2022 21:25

People might well call Christopher Chris, you can't force them to call him Kit.

user772263 · 11/03/2022 21:29

I’m almost certain that if he’s introduced to someone as Kit, they’re not going to randomly start calling him Chris.

If he chooses to go by Chris or Christopher when he’s older, that’s absolutely fine of course! But I can’t understand people thinking he’d be called Chris if he’s introduced as Kit Hmm

Hugo and Kit (Christopher), although I’d happily use Kit as a nn for Charles if I so wished

George is fine, just way overused

Exactly.

The kit I know didn’t know he was called Christopher until he was about 8.

DogsAndGin · 15/03/2022 21:47

Christopher

TheVanguardSix · 15/03/2022 21:49

Christopher is lovely.
Kit as a NN is fine!

It happens a lot I'm afraid. My brother's best friend Philip was called Pip all through our childhood until they went to secondary school and all of a sudden he became Phil - so boring! I'm Elizabeth and like being called Lizzie: it's how I introduce myself and sign off emails etc. regardless of that, so many people (interestingly usually men) shorten it to Liz without asking. I hate being called Liz and will correct them, but often they continue to ignore me.
Lilaclavenders · 16/03/2022 06:48

Christopher naturally shortens to Chris!

Kit sounds like it's short for Kitten or Kitty. I honestly don't see any connection to Chris or Christopher.

bloominglovelyorange · 16/03/2022 07:12

Schools now have forms asking what you'd like your child to be "known as" day to day, so just write Kit and that's what they'll call him and use on register etc

VerveClique · 16/03/2022 07:23

James/Jake?

Fivebeanchilli · 16/03/2022 07:31

Kit.
I love Kit.
I'd probably use it as a nn and probably for Christopher (though it wouldn't bother me to use it for Charles) or Christian.

Synchrony · 16/03/2022 08:10

Kit. I actually prefer George as a names but Hugo and George together I find a bit heavy.

lisaandalan · 16/03/2022 16:41

I was thinking George even before I opened the thread,
I really don't like kit awful, Hugo is lovely. X

Violetandpurple · 16/03/2022 16:46

I think Hugo and George go lovely together.
Personally Hugo and Christopher aren't two names I'd put together.

Tidypidy · 16/03/2022 16:54

We have a Charles known as Charlie or Chaz.
