Following on from my other thread I've amended my name choices.
I'd appreciate help/advice on which is nicest.
Middle name would be Jean (named for my nana I can't compromise on this).
I'm half Korean so have picked some Korean names too this time as well. I could add the Korean name as another middle name after my nanas though:
Bae
Chin-Sun
Minji
Moon
So-Ok
Sailor
Ember
Cherry
Magnolia
Bronte
Sage
Venus
Yes I've ditched Apricot & taken on board some of the advice you ladies have given me I appreciate it x

Ember
Moon
Brontë
Are all good.
Elba or Alba might be nice alternatives to Ember.

Snowbell99 · 11/03/2022 16:47

Since reading this thread I can't stop thinking about Sailor Moon and I'm wondering whether I should watch some episodes.

2orangey · 11/03/2022 16:47

Any of these are lovely:

Azaelia
Ember
Sage

And then one of the Korean names as a middle name. I think you would need to ask Korean speakers for advice on chosing those, as English speakers just relate it to the closest-sounding English word.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 11/03/2022 16:47

I like cherry, mind you could be mistaken for the French cherie.
Hate the others sorry.

ThelastRolo20 · 11/03/2022 16:47

I really like Sage, Moon, and Bronte - agree with not minji :)

DogsNotMen · 11/03/2022 16:47

Cherry, Ember or Azalea

Sage Jean is far too similar to Sage Green, which is a colour.

Apricot has actually really grown on me since your first thread!!!!!

Strokethefurrywall · 11/03/2022 16:47

Love Sailor, Brontë, Story, Ember, So-ok.

Sailor my favorite!

Gonnagetgoing · 11/03/2022 16:48

Azalea is lovely as is Sage.

I'm not keen on some of the Korean names, Bae, Minji etc. I think they'd work much better if you lived in Korea, but if you're living here not really!

My friend's name is YaeRi - she's Koean.

But I like Azalea the best so far!

Gonnagetgoing · 11/03/2022 16:48

Ooh how about Azalea Jean Sage?
Gonnagetgoing · 11/03/2022 16:49

@nutellingyou

Ember Moon Brontë Are all good. Elba or Alba might be nice alternatives to Ember.
@nutellingyou - Alba is what a friend called her daughter.
Rosenborg · 11/03/2022 16:49

Cherry 😍

DrGradusAdParnassum · 11/03/2022 16:50

OP, I think you are great - you are taking it all on the chin very well.

None of these names would be my cup of tea not just because I'm old enough to be your mum but of the ones mentioned on this thread, Azalea is a good suggestion. Jeanie Moon is also curiously okay (and she could just call herself Jean, if she got fed up with Jeanie). Bronte is pretty normal, as is Cherry. Someone also suggested Suki, which might work as a compromise. I would definitely rule out Bae, So-Ok, Chin Sun. And, obvs, Minji. And Sailor is one of my pet name hates! But that's just me...

Gonnagetgoing · 11/03/2022 16:51

@becarefuloutthere

Go with Cherry Jean, it sounds really nice 😊
Or Azalea Cherry Jean.

I'd have 3 names.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 11/03/2022 16:51

So-Ok is like Suh-k
I love that. Please do use a name from your Korean heritage. Our children live in a much smaller world than we do, they are used to oriental names - particularly Korean, and will be much less ignorant than the older generation.

Tsuni · 11/03/2022 16:52

I like Azalea
And these ones are nice enough:
Cherry
Sage
Ember
Brontë

TheScepticalEyebrow · 11/03/2022 16:52

Bae is a moronic overdone word said 5 years ago among the Insta-huns
Minji, people will wonder WTF you mean, a cute minge?
Moon = the mother is a dipshit hippy that makes life decisions according her horoscope.
So-Ok. As in the opposite of not OK. There will be times when your daughter's name is written and read out by people who haven't it before and don't know how to say it. They will say it So Ok as two words.
Where did Bronte come from amongst that lot? Everything's so hippy then suddenly we have Heathcliff and Cathy out of nowhere. Anyway, it's a surname.
Magnolia is just about the most boring colour on earth, in every new build house everywhere for the last 30 years.
Cherry - pop your cherry. A reference to virginity and sex in the UK.

Honestly, they're all mad. Just give your kid a normal name that won't cause her embarrassment or problems, for fuck sake. I say this as someone who was landed with a similarly absurd name which blighted my life and I changed the minute I turned 18.

AwkwardPaws27 · 11/03/2022 16:52

I've surprised myself by really really liking Sailor! Not a name I'd have ever come up with but it's actually really cute.
Sailor Jean sounds sweet too.

I really like Cherry too, & Bronte.

SquigglePigs · 11/03/2022 16:52

She's right, you've taken it all in very good spirits, which isn't easy when it's something as important as yuye baby's name!

As you're Korean no one will think twice if you have a Korean name (except the obvious one that's been mentioned!).

Also the Azalea suggestion is lovely!

antisocialsocialclub · 11/03/2022 16:54

@Snowbell99

I don't mind Moon as a middle name but as a first name it isn't great. I think of mooning someone (showing them your butt as a prank).

By the way I can't stop laughing about Apricot Jean, I'm sorry! But the more I think about it the more I imagine an old lady named Jean selling apricots at the farmer's market and this sort of becoming her nickname. She'd stand next to Potato Joe and Cheese Barbara.

I don't mind Moon as a middle name but as a first name it isn't great. I think of mooning someone (showing them your butt as a prank).

Grin What about Luna, or Selene (Greek Goddess of the moon?)

Snowbell99 · 11/03/2022 16:54

I can't help but wondering if this is a Sailor Moon homage. Given that there is also a Sailor Venus.

If you want similar names:

Luna (this is a bit popular but really nice)
Tsuki (it means "moon" in Japanese)
Selena (means "moon")
Selene (see above)
Serena (Sailor Moon's name in English translation (sometimes they use Usagi)).

I loved Sailor Moon reruns as a child.

Purpleavocado · 11/03/2022 16:55

I think So-ok / suh-k might sound like 'suck' when someone says it, which wouldn't be cool
how about Jeannie Moon or Bronte Jean

AwkwardPaws27 · 11/03/2022 16:55

Serena Jean has a nice ring to it, actually...

Hippolyte · 11/03/2022 16:56

@Snowbell99

What exactly is wrong with Minji? Maybe I'm not getting the slang thing because I know two Minji/Minjee from Korea (both with the same surname but not related) and I always found it nice. However, as far as I know it's the Jennifer of Korea and was really really common there in the 80s and 90s.

I like Sage. It's nice.

I dislike Magnolia. The flower is beautiful but the name sounds awkward and she will be just another Maggie.

I wouldn't recommend Chin-Sun because they are two English words.

You really don't understand the problem with Minji in the uk?! Are you British? It's been around for a long time. Not to say that it isn't lovely in Korean but you must see that it doesn't work in the UK?
whatajuckingfoke · 11/03/2022 16:57

Definitely wouldn't be ok if you use Minji as a middle name Shock

OP out of everything on this thread Azalea is nice! And it goes with Jean.

RobertsRadio · 11/03/2022 16:58

no child wants to be called Moon Shine Minge. 😂😂
