Following on from my other thread I've amended my name choices.
I'd appreciate help/advice on which is nicest.
Middle name would be Jean (named for my nana I can't compromise on this).
I'm half Korean so have picked some Korean names too this time as well. I could add the Korean name as another middle name after my nanas though:
Bae
Chin-Sun
Minji
Moon
So-Ok
Sailor
Ember
Cherry
Magnolia
Bronte
Sage
Venus
Yes I've ditched Apricot & taken on board some of the advice you ladies have given me I appreciate it x

OP posts:

@PoleFairy

Bae - I don't think this would translate in the UK well as people use it to call their friends/boyfriends to mean Before Anyone Else Chin-Sun - nice Minji - wouldn't translate well to UK as minge is a vulva Moon - I like So-Ok - nice Sailor - nice Ember - dont like so much Cherry - nice. I went to school with a girl named Cherry. Its unusual but doesn't feel too out there because it sounds similar to the popular name Cheryl. Magnolia - love love this name and has potential for nickname Maggie Bronte - this is ok. I went to college with a girl name Bronte and it suited Sage - really like. Such a fresh Venus - not massively

Bring back Story which I love!

@PoleFairy

There were 21 girls named Cherry last year, and fewer than three Cheryls. Cheryl is so rare now it doesn’t make the ONS list at all.

There were more Storys (6) than Cheryls

Chin-Sun Jean is nice OP. Sage Jean is a no for me because of Sage Green.

GreenWhiteViolet · 11/03/2022 17:25

I think Sage and Bronte are the best on your list.

Bae and Minji aren't really advisable in the UK. I really don't like Cherry or Sailor. Sailor Jean sounds like a children's TV character who owns a ship. Do you like Taylor? It's not a name I'd personally choose, but it's similar in sound and much more usable. Or Kayla?

whatajuckingfoke · 11/03/2022 17:30

Luna is a cute alternative to Moon.

Luna Jean
Azalea Jean

Both nice and won't get your child laughed at!

Liveandkicking · 11/03/2022 17:31

Moon is lovely - has the obviously nature meaning in English but also Korean meaning.

Fridafever · 11/03/2022 17:32

What about Gardenia? I love this as a name but don’t have a DD.

scottishnames · 11/03/2022 17:33

OP I think you have coped with so many critical comments on this thread and another with grace and good humour.

What about:
Ember (or Amber) Jean Moon
Azalea Jean Moon
Jean Sage Moon

Jean is one of those older names (1940s-1950s - and for centuries before) that is slowly becoming popular again. It's plain and simple and elegant. Nothing faddy or frilly.

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 17:34

I don't like SAGE. All I think of is stuffing. (That you have with a roast meal.)

JEAN with anything, just sounds shit. (Sorry JMO.)

I do love WILLOW. Gorgeous name. Willow, Luna, Harper, Scout, Bronte, all cute, nice names.

Some people may pronounce BRONTE, as BRONT though, like one syllable instead of 2

I am not too keen on Cherry, Magnolia or SAILOR.

Hohofortherobbers · 11/03/2022 17:34

How about Celeste? Or Stella, Estelle?

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 17:35

@Fridafever

URGH! Confused

Reminds me of the goya gardenia talc my nan used to wear. Just NO!

Gazelda · 11/03/2022 17:36

Bae - no, for reasons already given
Chin-Sun - I'm. It sure I like this, but it would probably grow on me if I knew the child.
Minji - 😂
Moon - pretty, but people would inevitably joke about bare bums.
So-Ok - suki is better.
Sailor - ok
Ember - I like this one.
Cherry - ok
Magnolia - boring
Bronte - fabulous! And goes well with Jean
Sage - nice.
Venus - not keen.

I adore Azalea

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/03/2022 17:38

OP, you are a delight

Sage is the best one but a long shot
Otherwise Cherry
How about Jasmine, or Robin, or Iris, or Rose...

Bae - I like it, except people are going to think you called her after Beyonce so don't
Chin-Sun - it doesn't translate well in the UK
Minji - NO!!!
Moon - No, people will think you are a mad hippy or a failed astronaut
So-Ok - no! it sounds like the name of a Japanese soft drink here
Sailor - no! - the person who says they like this is a psycho, it's bizarre
Ember - no, people will mistake it for Amber.

Cherry - if you must, but she's going to have to put up with some dodgy jokes in her teen years
Magnolia - no, it's the name for generic white paint.
Bronte - no, it's got a dodgy rep like Jayden etc
Sage - it's OK
Venus - no, it really is a stripper name

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/03/2022 17:42

STOP THE PRESS!!!

Azalea Jean

It's great! Azalea is a sparky, clever, original, girl

She is even kind to her friend Apricot Fire Minge who all the other kids are mean to

The name Azalea is minging. All I think of is IGGY
Isthisjustnormal · 11/03/2022 17:52

Agree hugely that you have coped with the mumsnet conservatism (& actually a somewhat provincial attitude to non English names) with a great resilience and humour - what amazing attributes for a mum to be!
Fwiw, my dd has a name that mn hated when I named her 16 years ago and is not regularly posted on mn threads as beautiful and classic - name preferences are very fast moving.

Fwiw I love Jean and Jeanie - classic, can be fun or elegant, very underused. I’d even be tempted as a first name with a Korean middle name (admitting that of your suggestions many are hard for an English audience!) of your suggested names I personally love Magnolia (esp mn Noly or Nolia rather than Maggie. I do likeSage and Bronte too - and I’m coming round to sailor!

I do think the Korean names you’ve suggested have some tricky associations to an English ear - are there any other Korean options that might translate more easily? I think it would be lovely to bring your heritage into the name for your daughter. This is purely from google so feel free to tell me you hate them but i wondered about Nari (lily in Korean I think) as a Korean name option or Hana? Both are very easily pronounced in English. Hana Jean works for me, as does Jean Nari!

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/03/2022 17:59

Azalea for me too.

Bae = babe in insta speak
Chin Sun = doesn’t work as are two British words. Look at your chin son
Minji = you really don’t want your dd to mingy
So Ok = the ever more jokes of are your ok or so ok?
Sailor = hello sailor - frustrated seamen and gay male greeting
Moon = doing a moony (please don’t encourage boys)
Ember = dying ember in a fire, depressing
Cherry = I like it but the teen jokes of popping your Cherry would be a no
Magnolia = Pretty. But the wall colour is beyond boring and is not on the cool and edgy side of different
Brontë = potentially ditto Magnolia but is the best out of these names
Sage = In French if your dog or child is good, they’re ‘Sage’ so it’s a no for me. Also sounds rather ‘heavy’ as a name.
Venus = I’m your Venus razor, your desire

VoodooBadger · 11/03/2022 18:00

I like Ember and Sage from your list, and Story from your previous list. I also like Azalea.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/03/2022 18:01

@Snowbell99

I can't help but wondering if this is a Sailor Moon homage. Given that there is also a Sailor Venus.

If you want similar names:

Luna (this is a bit popular but really nice)
Tsuki (it means "moon" in Japanese)
Selena (means "moon")
Selene (see above)
Serena (Sailor Moon's name in English translation (sometimes they use Usagi)).

I loved Sailor Moon reruns as a child.

I like these names though.
FlamingoDust · 11/03/2022 18:13

I like Cherry or Ember. Personally I also really liked Apricot!

BrutusMcDogface · 11/03/2022 18:22

BrutusMcDogface
Please take on board what everyone has said about Minji/ mingey, though.
Yes I will thanks I'll get rid of that one then x

You are fab, I agree with all the people who have said so! 💕

Degreeincodology · 11/03/2022 18:50

What about Flora Jean

RaininSummer · 11/03/2022 18:54

I love azalea. Azalea Moon has a certain something about it

ladycarlotta · 11/03/2022 19:04

ooh it really does!
ladycarlotta · 11/03/2022 19:08

OP, you are great! I'm so impressed by your resilience and humour. I don't think you need to worry about the PPs who say 'not in England' to Korean names, although I do agree that Minji might be best avoided.

I love Magnolia and the suggestion of Azalea
Moon is kind of lovely in either language
Chin-Sun I like
I like Sage but not Sage Jean
Sailor is cute

Good luck and happy life with the new baby!

peaceinourtime · 11/03/2022 19:18

Apricot is nice, for many years at school, I wanted to be called Apricot. However, my friend thought it sounded like a pet name :(.
Cherry and Sage are also both nice names.

fleurpots · 11/03/2022 19:36

I really like Sage and actually quite like Apricot - i missed your last thread. You could have it as an additional middle name, Sage Apricot Jean.

I do think some of your names are best avoided if you are living in the UK, due to certain associations.
