I saw on a recent thread that Francis was due to make a comeback, I really love this name for my DS with the nn Frank and trying to persuade DH.
Please give me your opinions

Love it

BeyondPurpleTulips · 11/03/2022 14:30

It's my DS' middle name, so I can get onboard with a comeback :)

(And mine, and my mum's, and my grandad's)

BeyondPurpleTulips · 11/03/2022 14:31

I also know of a mners baby called frank :)

occa · 11/03/2022 14:33

Yes, love it

Dumbledoressister · 11/03/2022 14:35

I know one. I love it.

FlippyFloppyFlappy · 11/03/2022 14:36

I love Francis ❤️

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/03/2022 14:37

Lovely

Francis of Assisi is a nice reference too

Lilaclavenders · 11/03/2022 14:39

I like Francis.

Nickname France.

doglikescheeseontoast · 11/03/2022 14:45

I love it.

I know 2 adult Francis - one I worked with, he was clever, witty and insightful.

The other was one of the District Nurses who visited daily when my wife was dying. He was the most gentle, caring, compassionate man.

So yes, I love the name 😎

HoldingTheDoor · 11/03/2022 14:47

It's awful. Wet and unattractive and Frank is one of the ugliest names around.

Glaciferous · 11/03/2022 14:47

Fab name. I thoroughly approve!

liveforsummer · 11/03/2022 14:50

The ones I know all go by Frankie not Frank.

JazzPigeon · 11/03/2022 14:50

I have a 5yo Francis, nn Frankie. I know one in his 70s but we've not met another boy called Francis yet. There are lots of Freddies around but I love that Francis is very rare.

Francis, Frankie, Frank... are all awful! Sorry...

F names are not my taste , let alone Fr names!

Howshouldibehave · 11/03/2022 15:02

I really don’t like either Francis or Frances. Love Francesca and Frank though!

fantasmasgoria1 · 11/03/2022 15:02

My grandfather was called Francis. He changed it because he hated it.

1stTimeMama · 11/03/2022 15:02

I know a baby Francis. I'm not keen on it, as it's a bit feminine for me, the only one I know is a middle aged woman. Nor Frank, which I think is too harsh sounding. What about Franklin?

AuntieStella · 11/03/2022 15:06

I would assume an RC family - it's the current Pope's chosen papal name, and at the other end of the scale Francis Rossi (Status Quo) was named for St Francis of Assisi

SirVixofVixHall · 11/03/2022 15:13

Really nice name !

clarrylove · 11/03/2022 15:34

Not a huge fan of the male version. The only boy I know is a PITA. His name is shortened to Franner by his mates, which I don't love either.

astoundedgoat · 11/03/2022 15:37

Francis Crawford of Lymond
St Francis of Assisi
Pope

All pretty solid namesakes!

ISmellBurnings · 11/03/2022 16:26

Really dislike Francis. It’s so wet and formal sounding.

Snowbell99 · 11/03/2022 16:35

I don't like Francis or Frank.

I dislike this name group in general (Francis, Frank, Frankie, Frances, Francesca, Francine).

thecatwhogotthecream · 11/03/2022 17:13

Go for it. Fab name
