To all those advocating 'Mhairi'.
Its nothing to do with accent.
Gaelic is one of those languages where the spelling and pronounciation of a word changes according to how it is being used .

The name Mairi is just like that. No argument. People who don't understand/dont care/don't mind - that's their choice, entirely - may use other spellings, but grammatically they are wrong. I'm sorry. I don't make the rules of grammar.

Mairi = the form of the word used when it's a name/the subject of a sentence: My name is Mary. Mary sat on the mat.
Mhairi = the form of a word used when the person of that name is being spoken to. (mh=v, as a sound) ' Moran tang a Mhairi' = 'Thank you, Mary'

I know what you are saying @scottishnames but I also know quite a few women called Mhairi who use the V sound name, including women who have Gaelic speakers for parents.

I like Ailsa but it’s too similar sounding to Eilidh imo.

I think tricky to pair island names with Isla without sounding like you’re saying isle of (Isla) Skye etc.

Can I ask what you went for? I have an Eilidh and love Isla but have a relative to close called Isla to be able to use it so looking at other Scottish names to go with it.

Hey! What did you end up going with in the end?
We are due a girl any day now and the top contender is Eilidh however also really like Ailsa and Mirren. Thanks!

Hey. Hope you don't mind me jumping on. We are expecting any day now and we love Eilidh however also really like Mirren, Ailsa, Rowan, Iona. What other names are you considering to go with your Eilidh?

Also, do you find yourself correcting people alot with the pronunciation? We live in Scotland but it amazes how many people I have mentioned the name to and they have no idea how to pronounce. Thanks!
