Lexi... yay or nay?

My dh wants to called our baby Lexi-May but I don't like it. Lexi feels a bit overused and slightly chavy to me, and May has been done to death. So many kids at other dd school called "something-May. "
He doesn't seem open to many alternatives. Sigh

Nah, it's awful. Lexi isn't a name, it's a nickname for Alexandra/Alexis/Alexa, and not a very nice one. -May is done to absolute grim death and the two don't sound good together anyway.

NowEvenBetter · 08/03/2022 20:25

Absolutely not.

Wolfiefan · 08/03/2022 20:26

No. Really don’t like it.

smooshraspberry · 08/03/2022 20:27

Please don't

AwkwardPaws27 · 08/03/2022 20:28

I've known a couple of Lexis, it's a lovely name, but was always short for Alexandra. I'm still in touch with one and she uses her full name of Alexandra professionally. I'd suggest using the full name on the birth certificate even if you always call her Lexi at home.

RewildingAmbridge · 08/03/2022 20:28

Alexandra is nice and gives her more options as she gets older

Chilver · 08/03/2022 20:29

I like it, although wouldn’t double barrel it and would have it as a nickname for Alexandra.

celestebellman · 08/03/2022 20:30

It's pretty awful as a given name, as you say, and also seems quite dated.

Alexandra is lovely though. Without the May, and Lexi is ok as a shortening.

Motherdare · 08/03/2022 20:31

Sexy Lexy? Really?

Figgygal · 08/03/2022 20:32

Nooooooo

TracyMosby · 08/03/2022 20:32

I wouldnt go anything may / mae anymore. Not since 2008. Very dating.

I also wouldnt use lexi. Alexandra is lovely though.

Roses1221 · 08/03/2022 20:33

Nope, awful. Sorry

AdaColeman · 08/03/2022 20:37

No to Lexi-May, you’d be condemning her to a life time of jokes based on Lexi may what?
Apart from that both names are past their peak of popularity, and hyphenated names are best avoided if possible.

Spaghag · 08/03/2022 20:38

I've met a few Lexi-May/Mae. It seems almost obligatory to have a sister named first name-Rose.

It's wouldn't be my choice TBH.

LondonWolf · 08/03/2022 20:39

No.

Satansballsacks · 08/03/2022 20:39

Absolutely not.

LawnFever · 08/03/2022 20:40

Compromise on calling her Alexandra and if he must then May as a middle name, no hyphen.

Gives her more options when she’s older and Lexi can still be a shortened version if he likes.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/03/2022 20:43

-May is done to absolute grim death

This. For the love of all that's holy no more blood something-May.

Not everyone needs to sounds like a country song was written about them.

watcherintherye · 08/03/2022 20:45

I think Alexandra May sounds nice. Your dh can then use Lexi as the nn.

user1493494961 · 08/03/2022 20:52

Stripper name.

AnxiousHeffalump · 08/03/2022 20:54

No to Lexi or any spelling of it.

No to anything -May, or even worse, -Mai.

TarcasticSwat · 08/03/2022 20:55

I know a child with this exact name...

Kitkat151 · 08/03/2022 21:06

It’s awful...like really awful
