Lexi... yay or nay?

My dh wants to called our baby Lexi-May but I don't like it. Lexi feels a bit overused and slightly chavy to me, and May has been done to death. So many kids at other dd school called "something-May. "
He doesn't seem open to many alternatives. Sigh

Nay

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/03/2022 21:38

Your thoughts about it are correct.

Do not do this to your child.

Alexandra is fine.

PeakyBlender · 08/03/2022 21:45

Oh No, keep looking

Rosieposie101 · 09/03/2022 05:17

I agree with your thoughts about both Lexi and May

GiantHaystacks2021 · 09/03/2022 05:51

No.
Hate the name Mae, May or whatever it is, too.

IamSamantha · 09/03/2022 05:57

Horrible name. I know a couple of them and they are high maintenance.

ApolloandDaphne · 09/03/2022 05:58

My friends beagle is called Lexi. Nice for a short fat dog but less nice for a child I think.

RosaBaby2 · 09/03/2022 06:20

I think May is fine as a stand alone middle name but not Lexi, I agree with you and personally hate hyphenated names.

Flidina · 09/03/2022 06:27

Very over used, there are 3 Lexis in my daughters current class, and a couple more in the school.

AlwaysLatte · 09/03/2022 06:39

I don't think the Lexi bit is bad but it's too much like Alexa, and May is just too common IMO.

organicoatmilk · 09/03/2022 07:18

Lexi is nice as a nickname but I don't love it as a full name. I completely agree with you on May/ Mae and don't think Lexi-May sounds good together.

Lexi could be short for:
Alexandra / Alexandria
Alexis / Alexa / Alexia

BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine · 09/03/2022 07:24

I agree with others that the compromise of Alexandra May is the obvious and fair one - he can call her Lexi May the way any parent can use nicknames or affectionate forms of names if he wants but she won't be "labelled" (for want of a better term) with a name you have reservations about.

FitAt50 · 09/03/2022 07:32

Its an awful name and to add it to May makes it even worse Lexi-May sounds like one of Stacey Slaters kids in Eastenders. The kind of girl who is always in trouble and bully's other kids at school before leaving at 15 to have a baby with her drug dealing boyfriend.

ThePoint678 · 09/03/2022 07:35

Alexis with Mae as the middle name. At a push.

Ff10n · 09/03/2022 07:39

I'd go with Alexandra May - with May as a middle name with no hyphen. Your partner can called her Lexi May affectionately if he wants (I quite often use DD's middle name in this way), but her first name is Alexandra, or Lexi if you like it (though I prefer Alex as a shortened version - much classier).

AgingBadly · 09/03/2022 07:42

Chavtastic IMO

ImAvingOops · 09/03/2022 07:44

My sister is Alexandra, but known as Lexi. I like Lexi but to me it is a nickname rather than a real name.
May is just awful - so dull as a middle name. Along with Rose, it's the Louise of the noughties. All nice enough but completely lacking in imagination

Roselilly36 · 09/03/2022 07:50

Not keen if I am honest, but it is popular. I heard a parent the other day shout Alexa, I thought she was talking to her “assistant” and wondered why she was being so loud, then saw the child. I would avoid names like this tbh.

Caramelcap · 09/03/2022 07:57

I've definitely heard that combo before.

Much prefer Alexa out of all the full name alternatives and definitely not May (or Louise!)

Duxiejhrhrvjz · 09/03/2022 08:14

I don’t like Lexi as a stand alone name but Alexandra would NOT fit in with children names of my friends etc.
I would go with Alexia/Alexa and maybe spell Lexi as Lexie?

ISmellBurnings · 09/03/2022 09:59

Lexi is awful.

So so bored of -May. Unoriginal and massively overused. It makes Lexi worse.

LaLaLouella · 09/03/2022 10:04

I think your instincts are correct - it's not a great name...

I would also avoid Alexa though - the Amazon Alexa has made it unusable for a child.

demoness · 09/03/2022 10:04

I don't like Lexi, personally. Fine as a nickname for Alexandra, but as a full name, I'm not keen on it. The Something-May trend also seems rather overdone to me at this point - so many 2010s-born girls have similar names, it will probably seem quite dated in the future.

IdentifyingAsAPrincess · 09/03/2022 10:07

Nah.

HappydaysArehere · 09/03/2022 10:21

You don’t like it and for that reason alone I wouldn’t go for it.
