Looking for name suggestions for Maeve’s brother or sister. I’m Irish, DH is English and live in the UK. Favourites so far:

Girl:
Ailbhe
Aoife
Orla

Boy:
Cillian
Tadhg
Rory

Surname is Cole. Thanks

Girls
Deirdre - but I think a lot of English people really struggle to pronounce it properly
Sadhbh
Aoibhinn
Isla
Fiona
Fiadh

Boys
Conor
Darragh
Éoin (in any of the spellings Owen/Eoghan)
Ciarán
Óisín

I like all your choices.

Girl I would add - Fiona, Fionnuala, Saoirse, Aisling, Clodagh

Boys - Pádraig, and I'd go with Ruaíri over Rory. Fiacra, Feilim, Cathal

A question Maeve and her sibling might have is why one got the Irish spelling and one English.
You've already had lots of great suggestions, although Cathal Cole is an alliteration too far, especially if he ever spends time in Belfast where they lose the th and it becomes "Maeve's bro'r Ca'al"...

Anya is all I have to add.

Easter22bump · 07/03/2022 13:35

Thanks for the suggestions- quite a few family members names in their too!

Easter22bump · 07/03/2022 13:36

In terms of spelling. I also have Orla/Rory on the list. Happy to use an anglicised spelling if it’s an acceptable and used version to make life a little easier for them but I wouldn’t change the spelling of Aoife/Tadhg ...

Myownpapillon · 07/03/2022 13:38

I like all of the boy names, of the girls I only like Aoife

Maeve’s little sister is Elsie though, isn’t it?

Bettyhatesavocados · 07/03/2022 14:35

Niamh or Neve.

Easter22bump · 07/03/2022 14:46

I love Niamh but I think it’s too close to Maeve ... it was a contender first time round

TooTiredToCoo · 07/03/2022 14:54

I prefer Ruairi over Rory.

My favourite from your girls list is Ailbhe but that's probably the hardest one for English people.

Easter22bump · 07/03/2022 14:59

I totally agree - much prefer Ruairi but dh not sure. I also prefer Ailbhe but worry whether it would be a hassle for them, spelling and pronunciation wise!

Same for Tadhg!

irishfarmer · 07/03/2022 15:34

It's a long time since I lived in England but I think people would be able to say Ruairi easily just might misspell it either Rooree or Rory. Same with Ailbhe, she would get Alva a lot, Tadhg might get Tige. None of that would particularly bother me. My name is English and gets misspelt a lot I've lived in Ireland, England, Scotland, Australia and got lots of variations. Never bothered me.

We're in England and know a Ruaridh and everyone seems to cope with the speeding and pronunciation once they know

Roisin

Ruaridh

Love your names OP, but I find Tadhg Cole a little difficult to say with the g and c sounds coming in sucession like that. I have to say it more slowly than usual to say it properly - it comes out as Thigh Cole otherwise.
