Hi everyone. I’m pregnant with my first baby girl and I’m currently trying to decide on a name. I’m only 17 so I’m gonna be a teen mum and this is my first baby. I was looking at names and I found the name Braelynn which I love. I have also chosen Rae as the middle name. Does Braelynn Rae sound like a good combination? Or should I choose a different middle name to go with Braelynn? Feel free to make suggestions for middle names.

I also like these names:
Luna - but idk if it’s too popular, I don’t actually know any
Peyton - I also like this name and I prefer this spelling to Payton
Darcie - really popular in my area

I will probably go for Braelynn but I have these names as a backup.

Also, how popular are these names? I live in North London and I have only heard of Darcy/Darcie.

Also middle name will still be Rae if I do not go for Braelynn.

Darcy Rae is very cute ! Congratulations!

KylieCharlene · 06/03/2022 14:34

It's not my usual style but I really like Braelynn Rae.
I like Luna but not with Rae.
Peyton Rae really doesn't go together well.
Darcie (prefer Darcy)Rae is nice.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/03/2022 14:48

Congratulations

TBH I would try and pick something more conventional than Braelynn for the baby’s sake. Luna is an option, but very popular as you say.

How about Caitlin, Evelyn, Jocelyn, Phoebe, Chloe or Lucy?

Loisiana · 06/03/2022 14:51

I swear I remember an identical thread to this one from a few months ago! 🤔
Either you've posted before or there is another little Braelynn on the way somewhere

Fwiw I think Braelynn Rae is a bit odd as Rae is contained in the names twice

How about Lynne Rae? Otherwise I think Luna Rae is nicer, classier than both Darcy/Darcie and Peyton

GeneLovesJezebel · 06/03/2022 14:53

But shortened it could become Brae Rae.
I prefer the others, and I prefer Darcy and Payton.

SnottyLottie · 06/03/2022 14:57

I think with Braelynn Rae the highlighted parts are too repetitive and so don’t work well together.

Luna Rae sounds like rays coming from the moon (even though it sounds lovely from a neutral perspective).

Darcie Rae is lovely

ladygindiva · 06/03/2022 15:08

I've never heard Braelynn but I like it. Also love Darcie. Rae is a great middle name for either. Congratulations xx

goldenstar7 · 06/03/2022 15:20

I’m now considering Braelynn but with a more normal middle name, so when she’s older and decides she doesn’t want to be called Braelynn she can go by the middle name.

My choices:
Braelynn Rae
Braelynn Luna
Darcie Rae
Luna Rae
Peyton Rae

So maybe something like Braelynn Luna or Braelynn Elara? Idk

SallyWD · 06/03/2022 15:23

Out of all these names I prefer Darcie Rae. I don't like Braelynn but obviously it's whatever YOU prefer. I really like Bronwyn which is similar.

Firebird83 · 06/03/2022 15:53

I’m not keen on Braelynn, very American and made-up. Luna is ok from your list.

flashpaper · 06/03/2022 16:03

Agree with other posters that Braelynn Rae has too much repetition and sounds like a mouthful. I think something a bit less unusual would be a nice middle name for Braelynn so she can use it instead if she doesn't like it when she's older.

What about...
Braelynn Rose
Braelynn Elizabeth
Braelynn Catherine
Braelynn Sarah
?

goldenstar7 · 06/03/2022 17:33

I’m not really a fan of traditional names

OP posts:
StrawberryLadybird · 06/03/2022 17:37

Elara Rae is nice?

goldenstar7 · 06/03/2022 17:48

I think I’m going to go for Braelynn Aurora.

OP posts:
Toodleloodle · 06/03/2022 21:23

I think Braelynn is awful, sorry. Luna a s Aurora are pretty. Lara is nicer than Elara. How about -

Lyra
Ophelia
Leila
Jasmine
Maeve

cheesychipsfan · 06/03/2022 21:31

Braelynn aurora is lovely op congratulations Smile

LizzieAnt · 07/03/2022 01:00

Congratulations OP.

I'm so sorry though, I really don't like Braelynn, it somehow reminds me of the word braying.

I prefer Lynn on its own, or some of the other names ending with lyn - Evelyn, Madelyn, Rosalyn etc.

I like Aurora as a middle name better than Rae.

FayCarew · 07/03/2022 17:28

Congratulations!

I don't like any of your name choices.
Darcy/Darcey/Darcie has probably passed its peak, and combined have been popular, don't like the sound of it
Luna - quite popular, too close to Lunatic
Peyton doesn't seem like a girl's name
Braelynn makes me think of a dpnkey braying

Aurora is better than Rae

Bear in mind that you are very young and your taste in names will change over the years, and you need to like the name for the rest of your life

Happenchance · 07/03/2022 21:13

@goldenstar7

I think I’m going to go for Braelynn Aurora.
Braelynn and Aurora both sound like noises that animals make. Together they sound like the background noise in a zoo.

Braelynn Aurora will be awkward if your daughter has difficulty pronouncing her Rs.

SE13Mummy · 07/03/2022 22:22

How do you feel about your little girl needing to forever spell her name to people - Braelynn, Braylynn, Braylin, Braylen etc.? I know I was keen to give my girls names that had obvious spellings as I've always had to spell mine out even though it's a very traditional name.

Of your original options, Darcey, Peyton and Luna are all names of under tens I know in SE London but none of them are overused. I also know a couple of 19-yr-olds named Luna and Darcey. To me, Darcey Rae sounds great as a combination.

If it were my own 17-yr-old asking for opinions on her name choices, I'd mention that being the child of a very young parent may bring with it some disadvantages e.g. lower level of education completed, assumption that the baby wasn't planned etc. and that in the UK, there's a lot of prejudice around names. I'd encourage her to put her baby's needs and future ahead of her own need to make a statement and to consider choosing a first name that will reduce the amount of stereotyping she's immediately exposed to. I'd also encourage her to think of her little girl's name as something she needs to be as comfy with as she is her favourite jeans, childhood teddybear or something else that has stood the test of time - not a one season fashion wonder that only made it out of her wardrobe a couple of times before the novelty of it wore off. Personally, I feel middle names are the ideal spot for being creative or trendy so would suggest Darcey Braelynn or Luna Braelynn as a way to include Braelynn.
