Marguerite Vesper or Primrose Adelaide?

I posted here a while back about the name Primrose Adelaide. I’ve accepted that it’s a love it or hate it name, lol. Most here weren’t keen on it. However, when I asked a local name group I am on they overwhelmingly preferred Primrose. (300 votes vs 70 votes) So I wanted to ask here again your opinions on which you prefer - Marguerite Vesper [lastname] or Primrose Adelaide [lastname]?

Reasons why we love both the name:

We both love the name Marguerite! We both have sentimental attachments to it. Margot is the diminutive of Marguerite, so her nickname would be Margot. We adore the name Margot but it is just so popular that I don’t want that to be her full name. My kids, Lochlan and Elowyn, both have that long O sound so Margot would fit perfectly. Our daughters would be called Margot and Winnie which I think sounds precious together. (Elowyn’s nickname is Winnie or occasionally Wynn)
The meaning of my name is Tree Meadow and Elowyn means Elm Tree. Marguerite means Pearl so all the girl names would be not on the nose nature names.

My favorite name has been Vesper since I was in my teens. Vesper means ‘Evening Star’ and the stars are very special to us.

But I also love Primrose! It's not the typically long names that I prefer but I love it so much. Her nickname would be Prim, which fits in great with our kids nicknames Loch, Wynn, and Prim. We’ve also considered the nickname Posy - so Winnie and Posy. It also is a nature name, just a bit more on the nose. But I hate the nickname Rose. My husband's family have used the middle name Rose to death and that makes me hesitant.

Adelaide would be in honor of my husband (who hasn't had the chance to be so in our other two kids names, although our kid names were his top choices so he's thrilled about their names) His nickname growing up was Addy-boy so Adelaide (Addy being a common nickname for Adelaide) would be in honor of her Dad.

Thoughts?

Primrose Adelaide

Marguerite Adalaide

Datsandcogs · 24/02/2022 22:45

They all have significance and you like them, both very important points.

Personally I love the name Margot and would use that over Marguerite. The only name I don’t like is Vesper, it reminds me of Vespa, could you use a different name with a star meaning?

Margot Adelaide would be my preference. Good luck with your baby, whatever you call her.

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 24/02/2022 22:48

Stella means star and doesn't make me think of motor scooters or wasps

JuneOsborne · 24/02/2022 22:54

Primrose has a tweeness to it that Margeurite doesn't and on that basis, Margeurite.

Don't mind Vesper either, although Adelaide works well with Margeurite too.

Why don't you wait till she's here and see which one is her?

BadHairDayExpert · 24/02/2022 22:59

Margot Adele

BadHairDayExpert · 24/02/2022 23:00

Ooh no

Margot Stella sounds fab-u-lous

Kanaloa · 24/02/2022 23:02

I would choose Margot since that’s the name you actually love, and if she’ll be called that all the time anyway then thinking ‘it’s too popular’ doesn’t really make sense? Like if you think Margot is too popular but she’ll be called Margot then she’ll still have a popular name, except she’ll also have another name. I also don’t really think Margot is a natural nickname to Marguerite.

I don’t know if I explained what I meant very well, but to me it’s like saying ‘we like the name Emma but it’s too popular so we’ll call our child Emeraldina but we’ll call her Emma all the time. Like she would still be another Emma? And to be honest Margot isn’t even that popular!

To me Marguerite Vesper sounds like a character from a Barbara Cartland novel, and Primrose Adelaide sounds like a stripper/drag queen. I like the suggestion someone made of Margot Adele.

Ikeameatballs · 24/02/2022 23:05

Primrose Adelaide.

I don’t mind Margaret but I don’t like Marguerite or Margot and Vesper makes me think of James Bond.

InletsandBrambles · 24/02/2022 23:06

Stella and Estelle are off limits as my dear cousin just had a late term miscarriage (day before her induction date) and named her baby Stella. They are lovely names though.

Vesper makes me think of vespre sanitary towels from the 80s.

Nelliephant1 · 24/02/2022 23:06

Nope, neither, ever!!

Synchrony · 24/02/2022 23:07

Marguerite Adelaide.
No guarantee that your daughter won't want to be known as Rose if you use Primrose.

InletsandBrambles · 24/02/2022 23:10

@JuneOsborne I think that’s what we’re going to have to do. I was just hoping to order a cute little name placard before to announce the name. Lol, oh well 😆

Marguerite Adelaide

It’s very mid century elegant, I’d imagine she’d make a mean cocktail, be a great wit and take no shit. Margot is a lovely short form.

Although I do prefer Adela to Adelaide.

Vesper does just make me think of the sanitary towels, or I’d assume it had something to do with you being a bond fan. But is not awful as a middle name. Astra is an alternative.

What is awful however is Primrose, prim is grim - prim and proper is an insult not a compliment, it’s a name for a surrendered wife or something. Posy as a nn is sweet for a little girl but not beyond the age of 13.

But anyway if you are anti Rose and Rosy don’t use it, because there’s a good chance that’s what she’ll end up being called,

InletsandBrambles · 24/02/2022 23:16

@Datsandcogs thank you for your thoughtful response! They both mean a lot to us, which is probably why this is so hard! Ugh!

Marguerite is gorgeous, really classy. I love Adelaide nn Addy too.

Seren could be a “star” alternative? I agree with the negative comments about Vesper, sorry.

InletsandBrambles · 24/02/2022 23:20

@Synchrony good point.

InletsandBrambles · 24/02/2022 23:30

@Kanaloa
If she’s like her sister, she will likely be referred to as Marguerite or Margot 50-50. I understand the argument of naming your child but you intend to call them instead of giving them a long formal name with an every day nickname. However we use full names and nicknames pretty evenly.

Marguerite Vesper

wildthingsinthenight · 24/02/2022 23:37

Unhelpfully, I think both are great. Slightly prefer Primrose.

Libraryghost · 24/02/2022 23:38

They both sound like names of boats- sorry but you do did ask.
