Marguerite Vesper or Primrose Adelaide?

I posted here a while back about the name Primrose Adelaide. I’ve accepted that it’s a love it or hate it name, lol. Most here weren’t keen on it. However, when I asked a local name group I am on they overwhelmingly preferred Primrose. (300 votes vs 70 votes) So I wanted to ask here again your opinions on which you prefer - Marguerite Vesper [lastname] or Primrose Adelaide [lastname]?

Reasons why we love both the name:

We both love the name Marguerite! We both have sentimental attachments to it. Margot is the diminutive of Marguerite, so her nickname would be Margot. We adore the name Margot but it is just so popular that I don’t want that to be her full name. My kids, Lochlan and Elowyn, both have that long O sound so Margot would fit perfectly. Our daughters would be called Margot and Winnie which I think sounds precious together. (Elowyn’s nickname is Winnie or occasionally Wynn)
The meaning of my name is Tree Meadow and Elowyn means Elm Tree. Marguerite means Pearl so all the girl names would be not on the nose nature names.

My favorite name has been Vesper since I was in my teens. Vesper means ‘Evening Star’ and the stars are very special to us.

But I also love Primrose! It's not the typically long names that I prefer but I love it so much. Her nickname would be Prim, which fits in great with our kids nicknames Loch, Wynn, and Prim. We’ve also considered the nickname Posy - so Winnie and Posy. It also is a nature name, just a bit more on the nose. But I hate the nickname Rose. My husband's family have used the middle name Rose to death and that makes me hesitant.

Adelaide would be in honor of my husband (who hasn't had the chance to be so in our other two kids names, although our kid names were his top choices so he's thrilled about their names) His nickname growing up was Addy-boy so Adelaide (Addy being a common nickname for Adelaide) would be in honor of her Dad.

Thoughts?

I like Primrose and Marguerite, so would go with either of those as first and the other as middle name.

Marguerite Vesper sounds like a car

Jacketandbeans · 25/02/2022 08:28

I really don't like Vesper.

Your children have lovely names. I think Primrose Adelaide is gorgeous. Primrose is marmite on here as Mumsnet is quite anti twee or girly names, but I think the general public clearly like them as they are popular and Primrose is rising up the charts.
Marguerite is pretty but I see it as an older persons name. I think Marguerite might be a bit envious of Elowyn's pretty and modern sounding name.
How about just Pearl?

Lalliella · 25/02/2022 08:33

Marguerite is very pretty, don’t really like Primrose, it sounds a bit prissy. Not sure about Vesper, I’m getting a motorbike vibe off it, was it a brand? What about the Greek equivalent Hesper? Just done a bit of Googling as I like the star theme and also found Aster (Neighbours Blush ) which I love but thought was a flower! Also Yvaine. And Bellatrix but maybe not that one!

By the way, Elowyn is gorgeous! But her nn Winnie was ours and SIL’s word for fanny when the kids were small. Not sure if that’s more widely used or if SIL just made it up, just thought I’d warn you in case others use it like that.

RavenclawsRoar · 25/02/2022 08:35

I think that Primrose goes better with Elowyn and Lochlan - both fab names! I like the nn Posy for when she is little too. I find Marguerite a bit harsher sounding. So my vote would be for Primrose Adelaide. All that being said, I reckon Margot is absolutely perfect and you seem to love it so if that's back on the table then it's my top choice!

BennieAndBert · 25/02/2022 08:36

I love Primrose.

This isn’t really in the spirit of the board but maybe time to stop asking opinions (given how much of this you have already done) and just go for what you want. The names you’ve chosen are quite marmite so inevitably asking opinions will draw some negative ones.

ChrissyPlummer · 25/02/2022 08:38

Why would Adelaide remind your H of NZ when it’s in Australia Confused?

Datsandcogs · 25/02/2022 08:43
@Datsandcogs thank you for your thoughtful response! They both mean a lot to us, which is probably why this is so hard! Ugh!
Naming is hard for some of us (I’m a teacher so associations to names makes things hard for me!) But once you choose it will be extra special for the consideration it’s taken and the beautiful baby you have.

Margot Adelaide. Primrose is awful, way too twee and sounds like a cow’s name.
Margot from Marguerite is a little bit contrived given that Margot is usually used as a full name now. If you’re going to call her Margot anyway then what does the popularity matter? If there is another Margot in her class (there won’t be) she’d still be Margot B even if it wasn’t her legal name. Vesper isn’t a name, it’s like calling your child communion or mass.

Margot Adelaide.

Prim is AWFUL..

ofwarren · 25/02/2022 18:47

Primrose Marguerite

sadpapercourtesan · 25/02/2022 18:49

I like Adelaide and Margeurite

Margot is awful. Just an ugly word. Vesper...doesn't it mean wasp?

Primrose is a cow's name.

RuthW · 25/02/2022 19:15

Primrose is much nicer.

DogsAndGin · 02/03/2022 19:24

Primrose Adeline

DogsAndGin · 02/03/2022 19:25

Sorry, just realised you said ‘Adelaide’ - not adeline

ThatsNotMyGolem · 02/03/2022 19:31

Margot is way too close to maggot. A very unpleasant sound.

Agree with this . Vespers = evening prayers to me. Vespa = wasp.

Marguerite Vesper

tiredanddangerous · 02/03/2022 19:42

I actually really like Primrose but i don't like Prim as a nickname. Vesper is too James Bond for me I'm afraid.
