Help baby girl name

londonmama87 · 22/02/2022 09:15

I have a three year old son called Noah and am currently pregnant with a baby girl. After my son was born I struggled with baby name regret as I would hear the name everywhere, not realising how popular it was before I chose it. I am over that now and he truly suits his name. I also think PND may have had something to do with feeling unsure about my name choice.
I am trying to avoid the same experience when naming my daughter and would really appreciate any suggestions with choosing a beautiful name for her.

The following names are on my short list and I would love to know which one you like the best and which goes best with Noah:
Sofia / Sophia
Alice
Amelia
Grace
Mia
Isabella
Charlotte

Thank you x

I love Grace and Charlotte. The others are nice but I think Noah and Charlotte is a lovely combo.

Mumofgirls2017 · 22/02/2022 09:21

Well they are all popular- top 20-ish if you’re ok with that. Fine of course only becasue you mentioned it. I like Noah and Grace or Noah and Alice, fave is Alice

Hmbleybee · 22/02/2022 09:29

I prefer Sophie to Sophia. Alice or Grace are my favorites from your list too.

ISmellBurnings · 22/02/2022 09:50

If you’re worried about popularity all those names are really popular. Especially Grace, Amelia and Mia.

Rosieposie101 · 22/02/2022 10:12

They're pretty names (except Amelia which I hate) but I'd not use any of them due to the soaring popularity, they're all on the list of 'almost done to death' in my opinion (only mentioning because you specifically mention popularity being an issue for you.) Less popular names with a similar vibe that sound nice with Noah:
Susannah
Esther
Joy
Lydia
Edith
Jemima
?

Of your list I like the sound of Alice and Isabella best but I'd be worried about popularity. Isobel might be less popular?

organicoatmilk · 22/02/2022 10:17

Like others have said, all these names are very popular. If that's a concern for you I'd definitely avoid them.

Some suggestions that are bit more uncommon:

Leah
Amira
Annabella
Nia
Amalia
Scarlet

NannyR · 22/02/2022 10:24

I love Charlotte. Sophia, Amelia and Mia seem to be very popular at the moment. Grace is nice and not that commonly used as a first name, but very popular as a "filler" middle name. Like the PP, I much prefer Sophie to Sophia.

KylieCharlene · 22/02/2022 10:24

All very lovely names- but extremely popular.
My favourite is Isabella.
All 'go' beautifully with Noah.

DogsAndGin · 22/02/2022 10:26

Love them all except Mia, Grace and Sofia - which don’t sound as well to do as the others

Hikoridikori · 22/02/2022 10:29

All these names are very popular and you will hear them everywhere!

I don't get why siblings should have names that "go" well with each other.

Siblings get to have different and separate lives and noone in their 30s-40s would think if their name matches with their sibling's one! It's just a thing for toddlers-kids but this stage finishes soon...

Out of your list I prefer Isabella.

katielou987 · 22/02/2022 11:36

I really like the sound of Noah and Alice.
Congratulations x

SoftSheen · 22/02/2022 11:40

Alice or Charlotte. Lovely classic names.

MissBPotter · 22/02/2022 11:43

They’re all fairly popular but all really nice. I have one of the names on your list and I’ve only met one other. On the other hand there are two of a very unusual Irish name in my dd’s class (not in Ireland), so you never know. Just go with what you like best as even the top 10 names are used for a smaller and smaller percentage of babies these days. I like Noah and Grace together.

Justkeeppedaling · 22/02/2022 11:48

I'd suggest another biblical/Hebrew name - so Ruth, Abigail, Hannah etc. Though I think they are falling out of fashion now.

DeirdreRashid · 22/02/2022 11:50

Noah and Alice

AdaColeman · 22/02/2022 11:52

They are all extremely popular names, especially Sophia, Isabella and Amelia which have all been in the top ten names in recent years. So if you want to avoid the same worries that you had with Noah, you need to revise your list.

violetmonster · 22/02/2022 12:02

Names similar to the ones you have but less popular:

Sofia / Sophia - Sonia/Sonya *
Alice - Alicia
Amelia - Emeline
Grace - Gracianna
Mia - Maia (My-ah), Mila (Me-lah), Myla (my-lah)
Isabella - Arabella, Annabella
Charlotte* - Cora

Bellex · 22/02/2022 12:03

Sophia or Isabella

If you want other suggestions: Sadie, Penelope, Margot, Sienna, Alba, Imogen, Phoebe

StopForAMinute · 22/02/2022 15:16

I like Sofia/Sophia.

deadlanguage · 22/02/2022 15:25

They are all lovely but they are also all very popular - Amelia, Mia, Isabella and Sophia are top 10 - so I would avoid those if that's a concern. If you go to table 6 of this data set it lists all the names by popularity so you can scroll down to find less popular ones that you might like: www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/datasets/babynamesenglandandwalesbabynamesstatisticsgirls

jessilovesmarvel · 22/02/2022 17:31

If you worry about popularity you might want to avoid the names on your list but I really do love Noah and Amelia together.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/02/2022 21:40

Obviously all the names on your list are well used but you might want to avoid Amelia, Sophia/Sofia, Isabella and Grace if "hearing the name everywhere" bothered you with Noah - simply because very similar sounding Emilia, Sophie and Isabelle are also Top 50 and Grace is also so popular as a hyphenated as well as a single name (so will be even more well used than the statistics initially suggest). I'd also possibly avoid Mia, again because similar feeling Mila, Myla, Maya etc are also top 100 names so they kind of blend together a bit.

Imo Charlotte and Alice stand out the most of your choices - yes, they are still popular but they are very classic/traditional so personally have a more timeless feel to me. Plus they have a more distinct sound to them than some of your other choices - I don't think Charlotte or Alice would blend into other popular/trendy names so much. I think both work fine with Noah.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 22/02/2022 21:44

Amelia means absence of limbs in medical terminology, so that's a no.

Blue4YOU · 22/02/2022 22:02

I had Noah as my second favourite boy’s name for my first baby (sadly she was stillborn) after Isaac and then Daniel. She was called Grace.
My other DD is a Lydia.
So obviously I like biblical names and don’t care if they are popular!
Your tastes are similar to mine I think so I’ll suggest ones not on your list that I like (for girls):
Nell
Joy
Ida
Seren/Serena (I know they are different names)
Florence
Dora
Cara
Carmen
Clarissa
Lisette
Francine
Lorna
Clara
Julianna /Julianne (I used Julianna as a middle name)
Bethany
Eliza
Emmeline

I prefer Sophia to Isabella
I like Mia - Mari?
