Middle name for Arabella

Think we're finally sold on the first name of Arabella.

We're trying to work out middle names now I have two that we both particularly like and baby will be an only so no saving them for next time.

Currently we're debating

Arabella Sophia (also considering the spelling Sofia)
Arabella Matilda

Or throwing them all in and going with
Arabella Matilda Sophia.

We've also been playing with Pheobe as an option we also like Florence but not as strongly as Sophia and Matilda.

Our surname is quite a common one.

Wondering what others would pick? 🤔

Aw they're all nice names! But I like Arabella Phoebe the most because of the different ending sound rather than all ending in a. X

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2022 20:18

I'd choose Sophie over Sophia, I think the flow is better.

I like Arabella Sophie, or Arabella Sophie Matilda.

Or something like Arabella Sophia Jane or Arabella Matilda Grace, or combinations of the above.

I wouldn't go for two names ending in 'a' myself, but if there was a more simple name in there as another middle, having two names ending in 'a' would sound just fine. I'm rambling a bit there, but I hope you get what I mean.

I love Arabella btw, it's very pretty.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/02/2022 22:10

Nice names, the three a endings are possibly a bit Eurotrash..

Arabella Sophie Matilda is nicest I think
or Arabella Phoebe Matilda second

If do use Sophia I would stick with the standard Uk spelling, the f is a bit fussy if there’s no cultural reason for it.

StopForAMinute · 19/02/2022 22:15

I love Arabella Sophia.

CrackerGal · 19/02/2022 22:19

Rose?

CrackerGal · 19/02/2022 22:19

Oop, out of the 2 Sophia goes better.

tearinghairout · 19/02/2022 22:26

How many syllables does your surname have? It might make a difference. But ultimately, it's about choosing names that you love and/or that mean something to you.

TheVanguardSix · 19/02/2022 22:28

Arabella Sophie, for sure.
I know an Arabella Tamar, as in the River Tamar, which I think is beautiful.

Opihr · 19/02/2022 22:44

Arabella Madeleine
Arabella Charlotte

LadyLolaRuben · 19/02/2022 22:56

I think it needs a short middle name. As PP suggests i think Rose would be lovely

FireInCairo · 19/02/2022 23:18

Just make sure that if you go for Phoebe you spell it correctly.

I think Arabella is a very fussy and frilly name so I'd go with something simple if you must have a second name

Macademiamum · 20/02/2022 00:01

I think after a three syllable name a one syllable middle name can be nice

Arabella Rose
Arabella Joy
Arabella Pearl
Arabella Hope
Arabella Faith
Arabella Skye
Arabella Star
Arabella Jade
Arabella June
Arabella May

I do love the name Sofia/Sophia but prefer Arabella Sophie

Thewindwhispers · 20/02/2022 00:11

What @Macademiamum said. A short name would flow better.

I’d go for Arabella Grace, or Arabella Joy.

A first name and a second name both long and ending in ‘a’ sounds a bit rhymey. Doesn’t much matter I guess as middle names are rarely used, but hey you did ask.

Mumofgirls2017 · 20/02/2022 07:25

I was going to say the flow isn’t great a lot of repeated ‘a’ sounds, but if you know she’s your only one and you love the names I’d go for it- Arabella Matilda Sophia…. You won’t say them together much anyway. If you like it, that’s the most important thing. They’re lovely names

ThatsNotMyGolem · 20/02/2022 08:49

With Arabella being so long, have you thought about a single syllable middle name?

Arabella June
Arabella Sue
Arabella Claire

RuthW · 20/02/2022 10:00

Anything not ending in a

longicedbun · 20/02/2022 10:31

Arabella Iris
Arabella Valentina
Arabella Lucia
Arabella Joelle
Arab Ella Marie
Arabella Charlotte
Arabella Winona
Arabella Winter
Arabella Clementine
Arabella Hazel
Arabella Pearl

I hadn't even clicked on about the A thing! We've a two syllable very English surname.

I have an Arabella Wren Smile

Mam576 · 20/02/2022 23:56

My DD is Arabella Rose

Alrightqueenie · 21/02/2022 05:22

Arabella Jean

mathanxiety · 21/02/2022 05:41

Arabella Primrose
Arabella Simone
Arabella Celestine
Arabella Beatrix
Arabella Francesca
Arabella Xanthe
Arabella Rosalind
Arabella Paloma

I think an A ending for a middle name is fine with the elegant and imposing Arabella, as long as the A-ending middle name is equally as imposing.

From your own list, I like Arabella Sophia. Both names have a light and airy Mediterranean quality. Matilda is more Germanic.
