what do others think of Thomas Andrew, nn Tom? Big brother is Alexander James, nn Alex.

Soneone in wider but still close family have a cat called Tom/Tommy, that is the only thing I wonder if people will think is weird!

Can’t imagine Andrew would be very popular right now

SummaLuvin · 18/02/2022 14:46

I would be put off a name if my parents or siblings had used it on a pet. It wouldn't effect me at all if a cousin used it for a pet. However, every family dynamic is different, some cousins are much closer and more like siblings, equally some siblings are not close at all, so I wouldn't find it strange.

@summaluvin it's the only boy name we agree on Grin so we are leaning towards using it anyway as the cat won't be around forever and they didn't name him, he came with that name.

@FelicityBob I never actually thought about that! Andrew is a family name for us, and it would be used as a middle name not a second first name if that makes sense.

Very nice

No one will worry about the cat!

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2022 12:26

Oh ffs. He’ll disappear from the news very rapidly. And it’s a classic name, there are many Andrews.

@Luredbyapomegranate thank you, I actually asked them last night re the cats name and they didn't find it weird! so I think we'll go with it!

Lovely timeless names.

My ds is Thomas Joseph.

He's ended up being TJ!

I always liked Tommy as a nn but actually I never called him that (always Thomas) and he hates Tom.

The only comment we've ever had re his name was an idiot teacher who refused to call him TJ as she refuses to use nn for pupils but insisted on calling him Tom because that's just a shortened version.

She couldn't work out why when she said Tom my ds didn't answer and couldn't understand that's because he didn't realise she was talking to him as it's not a name he uses!

Thomas Andrew is a beautiful name. It has a lovely ring to it. I wouldn’t be put off by the Royals at all as it’s a common enough name and you’re only using it as a middle name anyway. I have a Thomas James so am biased!
