I love the names Mary and Maria but we live near a traveller site and there are quite a few Maria / Marie / Maryanne / Marys old and young and I don't want my DD to have the same name as lots of other DC in her school so I'm trying to make a list of other lovely girls names just in case I decide not to use either. I also like but can't use: Emma, Seren (love but not Welsh and would be a bit weird to use right?), Alice.

So if I like Mary, Maria, Emma, Seren, Alice but I also want a girls name that isn't in the top 100 what names would you suggest? Thanks CakeBrew.

I would use Seren if you love it. I’m not Welsh but I think it’s fine, it’s a beautiful name. I wouldn’t think it odd for a non welsh child to have the name.

Serena?

AudTheDeepMinded · 17/02/2022 18:55

I've got three boys s never got to use any girls names. I would have loved to have named a girl Pia, Cornelia, Pearl or Nina.

However, Eunice would be cool!!!

AudTheDeepMinded · 17/02/2022 18:55

BTW I thought Seren was Cornish?

FuggyPidding · 17/02/2022 19:02

Ooh not top 100 but similar to those you mention (which probably are top 100)...? Tricky! I don't know if these are in the top 100 but how about:

Seren is gorgeous. I also love Flori.

Mwnci123 · 17/02/2022 19:07

I like all your names.

I'm Welsh and wouldn't think it was weird for an English girl to be called Seren, though I would probably assume initially that she had some Welsh connection. It has the advantage that other than the 'r' not being rolled the typical English pronunciation of it is ok to Welsh ears (well mine anyway). One of my very favourite people is a Welsh Seren who can't roll the r in her name, so I am probably biased.

Mared
Manon

Catherine is classic in a similar way to Emma/ Mary maybe?

Elia is lovely, my niece in Spain has it

I’ve known two Mirens - one Spanish, one from Ireland. Both pronounced it Mih-REN, with the accent on the second syllable. I’ve always thought it a lovely name :-)
