Florence or Francesca

My husband and I couldn’t agree on two previous names and decided to start from scratch. Baby girl is three weeks old and we have narrowed down the list to two new names: Francesca or Florence. Our kids are called Olivia (nn Olive), Arthur and George. I have always loved the name Florence but it’s very popular now and my husband isn’t keen on Flo as a nickname. I quite like Flora or Florrie as nn. I like the name Francesca and that it’s not in the top 100 but not keen on Franny as a nickname and their cousin is called Frankie. Which leaves Chesca as a nickname which is ok. We can’t seem to decide between the two names and registration day is fast approaching. Which name do you prefer? All opinions and feedback are very welcome!

I love Flo

Violetmo0n · 16/02/2022 15:06

Oo this is a hard one as I love them both!

Not much help sorry.

The only thing that puts me off Francesca abit is the nn Fran.

AnaMRT · 16/02/2022 15:09

Yes we are finding it very hard! Our family loves both names too therefore not much help. I thought this might be the best place to ask to get honest unbiased answers.

Florence goes best with the siblings' names

NotHagueBlue · 16/02/2022 15:11

Yep of my favourite names! I prefer Francesca though as it has more spunk for want of a better word!

NotHagueBlue · 16/02/2022 15:12

*two, not yep!

MojoJojo71 · 16/02/2022 15:12

I think Florence goes beautifully with your other children’s names. My friends DD is Florence but Flossie as a nn which is lovely.

AnaMRT · 16/02/2022 15:14

That’s a good point. Florence is more in keeping with the traditional names.. I’m just wondering if I should worry about popularity since I’ve always loved the name And I have a daughter called Olivia.. 😂

Florence!

Classica · 16/02/2022 15:20

Francesca by a long, long way.

Florence is so frumpy.

irishfarmer · 16/02/2022 16:10

I prefer Francesca, my friend in school was nn Fran. I think her mam called her something like chessy, I can't remember, It was something cutesy that a parent would use not other teenage girls!

StopForAMinute · 16/02/2022 17:14

I prefer Florence, although Francesca is lovely too!

Ellmau · 16/02/2022 18:22

What about actually calling her Flora?

AnaMRT · 16/02/2022 18:30

I was thinking Flora could be the nickname as we call Olivia Olive most of the time…

Flora is lovely, nicer than Florence and Francesca.

MissBPotter · 16/02/2022 18:35

I have a Florence and I love it. But I might choose flora if I was naming again! There are three Florence’s in her dance class but I’ve never met a flora. Both lovely though.

swampytiggaa · 16/02/2022 18:36

My youngest is Francesca. Goes by the full name generally or Frank or Frankenstein and at Christmas frankincense 😂😂

When she was a baby her siblings called her cecca (kekka) which was cute

KylieCharlene · 16/02/2022 18:42

I like Florence but really dislike Flo.
Flora is nice though.
I dislike Francesca and really dislike Fran.
I'd be tempted to out Flora on the B.C in this instance tbh.

AKASammyScrounge · 16/02/2022 18:50

Francesca is Nadal's wife's name - Siska for short which is so pretty.

Florence is nice, but Florrie or Flo for short is horrid.

user1493494961 · 16/02/2022 19:27

Florence is lovely.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/02/2022 19:27

Francesca
Florence tips towards twee for me

Though I like Frances best

Biscuitsneeded · 16/02/2022 19:35

Florence, because she can be Flora or Flossie. Francesca is nice but Fran isn't so nice.

RuthW · 16/02/2022 20:31

If you don't like Flo don't chose Florence.

I have a Florence. We call her Floss. Everyone else calls her Flo. We don't mind but she gets cross when people shorten it without asking. If she knows them she is fine with Flo.

She even get Flo in professional emails when she has signed off as Florence to strangers.

RuthW · 16/02/2022 20:33

Love Flora but the margarine for men and spreading it about puts me off.
