Hi all,

Currently expecting no 3, second dd. Finding coming up with a name much much harder this time- so many names are familiar now, with added associations! Also finding it difficult to come up with something dh and I both like 🙄. Please let me know your thoughts on our list! Note- this has been painful to put together!
Clarissa (nn Clara)
Cassandra (nn Cassie)
Tabitha
Penelope (nn Penny)
Theodora (nn Thea)
Violet
Cecily (nn Cece)
Evelyn (nn Eva)
Susannah
Francesca

Dh doesn' like 'short names' so some of these are there for the nickname really!

Also open to suggestions!

TIA!

I like most of the names you have chosen, I also like Christina, Belinda.

ofwarren · 14/02/2022 09:36

I really like them all! I know that's not helpful.

Helenluvsrob · 14/02/2022 09:37

All lovely.
Evie / Eva / Evelyn hugely common though incase that bothers you

alisoninwonderland · 14/02/2022 09:38

Clarissa (nn Clara) - nice, although I prefer Larissa
Cassandra (nn Cassie) - love Cassandra but dislike Cassie! It's a bit of a harsh sound
Tabitha - frumpy
Penelope (nn Penny) - SO overused right now
Theodora (nn Thea) - same, although I do like it
Violet - lovely
Cecily (nn Cece) - love!
Evelyn (nn Eva) - super overdone
Susannah - lovely and much more original!
Francesca - dislike, sorry

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/02/2022 09:39

Clarissa (nn Clara) - I like but I grew up in the 90s so can’t help but hear the Clarissa theme tune
Cassandra (nn Cassie)- love! I think Cassie is such a lovely name
Tabitha - sorry I think of a cat
Penelope (nn Penny)- solid but very popular imo
Theodora (nn Thea)- a mouthful
Violet- very nice
Cecily (nn Cece)- doesn’t sound like a real name
Evelyn (nn Eva)- wouldn’t they default to Eve?
Susannah- god no, old and frumpy
Francesca- love!

Other ideas:
Gabriella
Arrabella
Rebecca

KylieCharlene · 14/02/2022 09:41

Clarissa nn Clara is beautiful.
I also like Carrie and Karina but read your dh prefers longer names.
How about Genevieve nn Eve?
Annabelle nn Belle or Anna?

MysticCT · 14/02/2022 09:44

I like Cassandra, Cecily, Susannah and Francesa the best.
I slightly prefer Cecily as I knew a lovely one, who would have been 110 years old now if she was still alive.
She always went by Cece.

Blue4YOU · 14/02/2022 09:46

Clara is a separate name from Clarissa (I’m sure you realise that but thought it worth saying)
I like most of your names too OP!

Other suggestions
Rebecca as pp said
Antoinette
Victoria
Carmen
Marina
Leonora

Luluuuuuuuuuu85 · 14/02/2022 09:47

Our dd1 is Annabelle so obviously a great name 😉

alisoninwonderland · 14/02/2022 09:56

While Susannah is really lovely I think, would her NN end up being Sue? That would be very frumpy indeed

I think to go with Annabelle I'd pick either Clarissa or Cassandra.

Names like Tabitha, Susannah, Francesca have a very different vibe and would sound old-fashioned next to very trendy Annabelle.

Evelyn, Penelope, Thea I'd think that your name choices overall are a overly trendy and therefore a bit unoriginal.

Annabelle and Clarissa, Annabelle and Cassandra, maybe also Annabelle and Cecily I would think, wow, you've such good taste for beautiful, thoughtful girls names ☺️

Luluuuuuuuuuu85 · 14/02/2022 10:08

Thank you for all the comments so far! A few have highlighted reservations I have about some of the names! I'm not super bothered about picking a name that is unique, though try to avoid the top names, lovely though a lot of them are!

Clarissa (nn Clara) - I don't like Clara. Clarissa is ok as the ss softens the Cl
Cassandra (nn Cassie) - not keen on either
Tabitha - not keen
Penelope (nn Penny) - ok but wouldn't choose it
Theodora (nn Thea) - don't likw
Violet - ok
Cecily (nn Cece) - don't know how to say Cece
Evelyn (nn Eva) - no to both. Evie and Eve are nice
Susannah - nice
Francesca - bit frilly and not keen on Frankie or Chessie

Susannah is by far the nicest

Rosieposie101 · 14/02/2022 12:40

Clarissa (nn Clara) - I don't like Clarissa but I do like Clara, bit it's very popular lately
Cassandra (nn Cassie) - I don't like Cassandra but I do like Cassie and Cassia
Tabitha - adore! My daughter's name! Biblical, classy and cool, fairly rare but not unheard of. Adore it!
Penelope (nn Penny) - it's pretty
Theodora (nn Thea) - Love Theodora. My second favourite after Tabitha
Violet - pretty
Cecily (nn Cece) - Cece is pretty but I prefer Cecilia
Evelyn (nn Eva) - I'd just use Eva, it's a full name, and nicer than Evelyn
Susannah - lovely! Biblical, classy, rare, pretty. Love nicknames Susie and Suki. My third favourite after Theodora
Francesca - it's okay.

I'd 100% choose Tabitha, Theodora or Susannah

urbanbuddha · 14/02/2022 12:48

Clarissa (nn Clara) - Clara is lovely, don't like Clarissa
Cassandra (nn Cassie) - ok
Tabitha - like
Penelope (nn Penny) - don't like
Theodora (nn Thea) - love Thea, could just about manage Theodora if it was only for the bc.
Violet - like
Cecily (nn Cece) - like
Evelyn (nn Eva) - like Eva, not so keen on Evelyn
Susannah - not with Annabelle
Francesca - probably my favourite, love Frankie for a nn

blameitonthecaffeine · 14/02/2022 23:29

Clarissa (nn Clara) - I like Clarissa. Less keen on Clara
Cassandra (nn Cassie) - love it. Cassie is sweet but the full name is beautiful
Tabitha - don't like this, sorry. I just think of cats. I know that's silly.
Penelope (nn Penny) - quite like Penny. Not keen on Penelope
Theodora (nn Thea) - love Thea but really don't like Theodora. Hoe about Althea if you need a longer version (I think Thea's great on its own)
Violet - not keen. I feel like it should be a pretty name but it just looks too much like Violent
Cecily (nn Cece) - not keen.
Evelyn (nn Eva) - like Evelyn, love Eva. Also Evangeline as an option?
Susannah - like it. Pretty and unusual.
Francesca - love it.

My shortlist from your list would be:
Cassandra, Francesca, Thea, Susannah, Eva

Other ideas:
Ariella, Amaya, Calliope, Charlotte, Delilah, Eleanora, Felicity, Gabriella, Hermione, Isadora, Juliette, Jacinta, Katrina, Lorelai, Larissa, Miranda, Marissa, Natalia, Octavia, Philippa, Paloma, Rosanna, Saskia, Tamara, Verity, Vanessa

DramaAlpaca · 14/02/2022 23:36

I like them all apart from Tabitha, Theodora and Francesca. Actually I don't mind Theodora, it's Thea I can't stand.

I wouldn't go for Susannah as you'd have two 'anna' sounds in their names.

I think Cassandra and Clarissa go best as they have a similar frilly style to Annabelle. I'm not being nasty when I use the word 'frilly', btw, I just can't think of another word for what I mean Confused Francesca fits this style too.

Luluuuuuuuuuu85 · 15/02/2022 08:29

Ha I understand! Annabelle is quite 'pretty' so I suppose you could say frilly! We seem to lean towards more girly sounding names. Some lovely suggestions, a lot we can't use. As I said in my op, dh will not accept a lot of short names which are names in their own right 😡. We're avoiding another A name. I like Cleo, but again, dh asks what it's short for?!

I also like a lot of the nn for Elizabeth but not so keen on the long version 🙈 anyone else feel like they are searching for 'the one' and haven't found the perfect fit yet?!

OP posts:
Luredbyapomegranate · 15/02/2022 14:10

Clarissa (nn Clara) - I like Clara as a full name better
Cassandra (nn Cassie) - Ok, I like Cassia better
Tabitha - I like it, it can be a bit of a posh girl cliche name

Penelope (nn Penny) - don't like Penny, bit dull
Theodora (nn Thea) - overdone with all the Theos as well
Violet - overdone
Cecily (nn Cece) - nice, I prefer the full name though, Cece a bit twee
Evelyn (nn Eva) - way way overdone
Susannah - lovely and underused.

Francesca - Lovely, getting more popular

Others - Serena, Claudia, Fernanda, Seraphina, Estella, Rosaria, Marianne, Genevieve, Jocelyn, Frances, Lois, Catrin

EdgeOfACoin · 15/02/2022 14:45

I really like Clarissa without the nickname. Clara is pretty but I know of three little Claras born within a couple of weeks of each other, so I think it's becoming very popular.

Luluuuuuuuuuu85 · 21/02/2022 19:27

Thank you again for the suggestions, I'm still struggling!
New names I'm considering are Elizabeth and Catherine- I like Libby and Betsy, and Kitty.
This is causing a huge problem now 😉.
Keep the suggestions coming! A lot I have to sadly reject as they are family or close friends names.

I feel ya. 8 weeks to go for us and no name. It's so hard. I'm a primary school teacher too so many names I associate with certain children 🙈
Luluuuuuuuuuu85 · 21/02/2022 19:34

Seems I've been down the Elizabeth route before 🙈

OrchidFlakes · 21/02/2022 19:39

Meredith- nn Merri
Juliet
Rosalyn/Rosalind nn Ros/Rosie

Also loving Clara from your list!

2littleloves · 23/02/2022 15:52

Due my first little girl after 2 boys in July and struggling to agree with husband about a name that goes with our boys Matthew and Joshua. I want something that's not too out there. Does anyone have any suggestions? Despite looking at countless lists I can't see anything I really love. Thank you!
